I wake up sweating, I look around my dark room and sigh.  It was just a dream.  I reach over and grab my phone, 5:58 am.  Great.  My alarm is set for 6 so I have enough time to shower and get ready before 7.  I unlock my phone and turn off my alarm.  I noticed all the unopened messages and realized I forgot to check them when I got home.

I opened Raynes first, 'Hey, sorry I didn't answer your call. I was busy, are you okay?'  Then twenty minutes later, 'Scarlet, are you okay?  I heard you were in an accident, everyones talking about it.  Text me when you see this please.'  And the last one was about an hour after that, 'I called the hospital, your grandma said you're going to be okay, feel better!  Text me!'

I feel bad now that I wasn't able to get back to her last night.  But her concern for me was really touching, 'Hi Rayne, I'm so sorry I didn't answer last night.  As soon as I got home I went to sleep.  I'm feeling perfectly okay, I'll talk to you more in english!'

I sent it then went to look at Elliots text, 'Scarlet what happened?  Are you okay?' Wow, I guess everyone really was talking about my accident.

'Hi Elliot, sorry I didn't respond sooner.  It was just an accident, I have a couple stitches but other than that I'm okay!'

I turn off my phone then get up.  Everything starts to go black for a second then it goes back to normal.  Okay, I definitely need to take it slow today.  Especially if I'm going to convince grandma to still let me go to the party.  Last night on the ride home she told me she didn't think it was such a good idea for me to go.  But I assured her I wouldn't even ask to still go if I didn't feel 100% up for it.  She said she'll consider it, and depending how I'm doing after school she'll decide for sure.

I walk over to my desk in the dark and grab my outfit for school, I then make my way to the bathroom to shower and get ready.  Once I finish, I check my phone, it's 6:45 am and there's a text from Derek, 'you better be ready when I get there.'

I laugh and shoot him a text back, 'I'm ready right now, I don't think that'll change in the next 15 minutes so don't worry.'

I go back to my room to grab my backpack and look for my car keys.  Wait, I don't need my car keys.  I go to the kitchen and refill my water bottle.  On the counter there's a note, 'don't forget to eat something, love grandma.'

I go to the fridge and grab a banana, I eat it quickly and then head towards the front door.  I put on my shoes, black vans for today, and check my phone.  It's 6:57 am, I open the front door and go outside to wait for Derek.  And just as he promised he was there at 7 am sharp.

I walk over to his truck and he reaches over the passenger seat to open the door for me.  Once I get in he stares at me for a second before asking, "do you ever wear anything over than a hoodie and biker shorts?"

I laugh, "yes, you'll see for yourself tonight at the party," then I wink at him.

"Someones in a good mood today," he smirks.

I laugh and go to reach for his aux cord, before I could grab it his hand shoots out and grabs my arm, "what do you think you're doing?"  He looked at me with horror in his eyes.

"Jeez," I yank my arm free and put it back on my lap, "you would think I just kicked a puppy or something.  I was just going to play some music Derek."

He huffed and reluctantly handed over the aux, I smiled in victory as I grabbed it.  I connect my phone and play my going to school playlist.  The first song to pop on was Cum On Feel The Noize by Quiet Riot.  Derek looked over at me, clearly shocked by my taste in music.

I look over at him and scowl, "ya know, that's getting kinda old."

Derek seemed confused, "what is?"

"Men assume that just because we are women that means we don't listen to or like the same music they do.  It's always a huge shock when a woman plays anything other than slow love songs."

Derek laughed at my little rant, "woah, easy there killer, I didn't say anything."

"You gave me that look."

"What look," he made a silly face, "this one?"

I laughed and turned up the music.  The entire ride to school we both belted out the lyrics to my favorite rock songs.  Once we parked, Derek hopped out of his truck and ran over to help me out.  Apparently getting in was a lot easier than getting out.

Derek threw his arm around me as we walked towards the school.  We were about to reach the doors when I heard someone calling my name from behind.  Derek dropped his arm and I turned in time to see a bubbly looking girl in a cheerleading outfit waving at me.

"Oh Scarlet," she sighed as she got closer, "you poor thing," as she reached me she threw her arms around me and squeezed very tightly.

"I heard about the accident, oh, you must've been so scared.  Almost dying like that, how dreadful," she sighed again.

"I'm fine, it was just an accident," I gave her a smile and hoped that'd be enough for her dramatics.

"You brave little thing," she patted the top of my head, "if you need anything, like a makeover maybe, just let me know!  Bye now!"

I stared at her as she walked away in shock, I didn't know it was possible to be so nice and rude at the same time.  I look over at Derek and he starts laughing hysterically.

"What?  Do you think I need a makeover?"  I asked, faking a sad look.

"No, of course not.  But you should've seen your face," he starts laughing again, "but that's Carmen for ya."

Derek continued laughing as I grabbed his arm and dragged him into the school.  We stopped at my locker quickly, then headed to math class.  This time Derek let me walk in front of him, so if anyone were to try and trip me, he'd see it.  Luckily for them, I wasn't tripped again.

The bell rang and Mr.Adams dove into today's lesson.  We actually paid attention today, it seemed to go by rather quickly because before I knew it the bell was ringing again.  Derek walked me to my next class and promised he'd be right here after class to walk me to gym.  I smiled as he walked away.  I really should thank Mr.Adams one day for making Derek be nice to me on that first day of school.

As I walk into class I spot Rayne staring at me.  Her eyes were full of concern, watching my every move as I made my way over to her.  She let me sit down and get situated before asking me anything.

"Tell me everything, what happened?"

I told her about Derek's weird phone call and my urge to try and help him.  I told her about how he finally called me and I told her what really happened.  Then I explained the wolf thing and how I swerved into the tree.  I told her about what it felt like and what it was like waking up in the hospital.

She seemed to be taking it all in still when the bell rang.  Mrs.Bridge made a quick announcement and then let us work on our projects with our partners.  I looked over at Rayne and she still looked lost in thought.

She looked up at me, "can you describe the wolf you saw?"

Weird.  Derek had asked me the same thing, I didn't tell her that though.  I described the wolf to Rayne the same way I had to Derek.  She nodded her head, "I believe you," was all she said before changing the subject to this weekend.

The rest of class we debated what snacks she should bring and which one of us will have the hero or the villain.  It was decided that I would have the villain.

The bell rang and Derek was standing outside my classroom just like he said he would.  As we were walking to the gym he pulled something out of his pocket and handed it to me.  It was a little piece of pink paper, 'Get out of class slip,' it read.

"What's this?"

"It's a present," he laughed then continued explaining, "I told the nurse about your accident and how you probably shouldn't be doing anything super demanding today, so she agreed to write you a pass so you can skip gym."

"What will I be doing instead?"

"We can figure something out," he smirked at me.

I laughed then thought about it, "wait but you don't have gym?  How did you get out of class?"

"I didn't, I'm skipping."
