The drive home went by quickly, It's basically just one main road the entire way. I pulled into the driveway, no matter how many times I've pulled in or out it still amazes me at how long it is. When I reach the house I see grandma's car. She must be on lunch. Grandma is a doctor at the local hospital, she works crazy hours. She isn't the only doctor but she's the one everyone wants.
I turn off my car and grab my bag. I sit for a minute before getting out of the car. I know grandma will have a lot of questions about school. She's a very hands on kind of guardian, she likes to be in the loop on everything. I get out of my car and head inside.
"Grandma, I'm home!" I take off my shoes and walk towards the kitchen.
"Hi honey, how was your first day? How are the classes? Did you make any friends?" Grandma right on que with the interrogation.
"My first day was good, the classes are good, I made a friend," she smiled at the last part, "oh grandma, I have something for you to sign."
I reach into my bag and pull out the opens form. I grab a pen, and hand them to her. She reads it over very carefully, looks up at me, then looks back.
"Scarlet, are you sure you want to be home alone for that long? It's bad enough I'm gone before you wake up and don't come home until before dinner." She looked guilty and a little sad.
"Grandma, I'm okay. I admire your work ethic, you're a great role model. I'm fine being alone, it'll give me time to do all my homework and stuff."
She sighs in defeat and signs the form, "okay then, if you say so," she smiles and hands it back to me, "don't forget to fill out the top."
"I'll do it right now." I sit next to gran at the counter and start filling in the form. All the basic questions that I'm sure anyone who knows me could fill out themselves.
"Are you hungry? I made a little extra pasta for you. It's in the fridge," she got up and went to get it, not waiting for my response, "I'll heat some up for you before I head back to the hospital."
"Thanks grandma," I smiled at her. I finished filling out the form and put it back in my bag. I grab my notebook and flip to a new page. I start doodling the same wolf but in a different position, with me laying down next to it. Grandma looked over at my drawing and then looked away, giving her best poker face. Anyone who didn't know her wouldn't think anything of it. But I knew better.
"Scarlet, baby, you'll tell me about boys right. I know it may be a little weird, since I'm your grandma, but you have to promise me you'll tell me." She sounded serious, so I thought about my answer for a bit before responding.
Will I tell her about boys? I don't know. It is grandma though and I trust her. She's also my only actual friend at the moment. Might be nice to get her opinion.
"Actually grandma, I did have a question about boys."
Her face lit up at my answer, "yes?"
"How do you know if a boy likes you? Like if he stares at you, really intensely, but doesn't say anything to you, does that mean he likes you? Or just thinks you're a freak or something?"
She thought about that for a minute, "well, how did he look at you?"
I wasn't sure how honest I should be about this, "sort of like in the movies when the love interest sees the main character for the first time."
She smiled, "he must like you, I mean you're a very beautiful young girl, what's not to like?" Grandma laughed. She brought over my warmed pasta and set it infront of me.
I grab a fork full of pasta and shove it in my mouth, I chew for a long while then swallow. I look back at gran and ask, "then why didn't he talk to me? He just stared at me with his golden eyes."
My statement must've thrown gran because she didn't say anything. She just looked at the wall behind me with a puzzled look. Then she looked at me with an intense face, "Scarlet," she was about to continue but her phone rang, "I have to go back to the hospital, we will talk more later."
"Okay, I love you," I call after her as she rushes to the door.
"I love you too honey, be safe, call if you need anything," and out the door she went.
I finished my pasta then did the dishes. After that I cleaned up the house a bit, and threw in some laundry. I decided to try and clean up my room a bit as well. Once the entire house was spotless I went to my desk and started working on my history assignment.
About an hour and a half later, I finally finished. I check my phone, it's 7pm, grandma should be getting home soon. I create new alarms for tomorrow and put my phone on the charger. I go through my clothes to pick out an outfit for tomorrow, I'm probably just going to throw my hair in braids, so I won't need to shower. I grabbed my dad's old college hoodie, and a different pair of biker shorts to match. I don't know what it is about biker shorts that I love so much.
I go to the kitchen, grandma deserves to have dinner waiting for her when she gets home, she works hard. I open the fridge and pull out ground beef. Tacos sound pretty good. I throw the meat in a pan on low heat and I start preparing all the toppings. Once the meat is finished I put it in a bowl and set it next to all the other stuff.
As if on a schedule grandma walks in as soon as I grab two plates. She announces herself and after a minute she comes walking into the kitchen.
"Oh honey, you didn't have to make dinner," she sounded sincere but I could tell she was happy about it.
"I just wanted to do something nice for you."
"I see you cleaned as well? Did you have time to do your homework?" She laughed.
"Yes, I finished all my homework and everything. I just felt like keeping busy tonight."
"Well let's eat," grandma sounded very enthusiastic about eating.
We both made our plates and sat together at the kitchen counter while we ate. We didn't talk, just ate our food. After dinner I put away all the food as grandma washed the dishes. We said goodnight to each other and went off our own ways to our rooms.
I got ready for sleep, turned off the light, and stumbled back towards the bed. I got cozy under my covers and not too long after I felt sleep washing over me.
~Dream~
I look around startled, "How did I get here?"
I'm in the woods, it's nighttime and I can hardly see anything. I hear loud footsteps coming towards me but I can't move. I am paralyized with fear. Out from behind the trees I see two golden glowing eyes. I step towards them out of instinct but then stop once I realize what they are attached to.
Right in front of me is a huge black wolf. The wolf took a step closer to me and I stumbled back, tripping over a root, I fell. I look down at my hands and see blood. The wolf wined and bowed its head to me.
Then, right before my eyes the wolf changed, and there he was, standing right infront of me, with those golden eyes.
