I managed to take Aaron to the hospital. Dalton asked me on the way if he will be alright, almost tearing up.
I made a promise to him that Aaron would be fine, and while we waited in the lobby.
Aaron's parents rushed in.
"How's my son?".
Mrs. Mathilda asked.
I told her what happened. She was stunned to hear that Aaron took a bullet for my son.
Mr. Smith goes to meet the doctor, they were both talking to each other, when a hand grabbed my hand and slapped me right across the face.

I looked back and met Elena

Mom was irate when she saw that. She pulled me away and slapped her right back.

Elena went frantic, she had my mom and her almost in a fistfight.
Mrs. Mathilda reprimanded her for creating a scene.

Elena however accused me of what happened to Aaron.
She says I was trying to get back into Aaron's life, by using my child.

That got me so angry.
I wanted to hit her so hard, but the doctor had that thought interrupted when he walks out of the emergency room with information.
He says, Aaron had a severe injury on his abdomen, but the bullet wasn't deep.
"So he will be alright?".
I asked.
He shook his head and expected us to wait for a while.

I stayed with the rest of the family, Dalton was busy sleeping on my lap.

Mom walks away with Mrs. Mathilda to get a cup of coffee, I stared at them while they left.

Hours went by, and the doctor said we were allowed to see Aaron at his ward.
Dalton raised his head and ran ahead.

I came in and following behind were his parents.
Aaron saw the look on our faces yet choose to make a farce.
"Don't tell me, y'all been crying?".
He looks at Dalton.
"Son, did you also cry?"
He says again with a laugh.

Dalton shook his head and went to his bed, Aaron takes him up and sets him down next to him.
He made some noise like he was in pain.
Mrs. Mathilda takes my hand and asked me to go meet the doctor, I turned to the door to leave, but Aaron asked me not to since it wasn't a severe pain.

Elena walks in crying.  I saw the look on her face before looking away.

Aaron saw that but chose not to say anything.
Mom whispered to my ears that it was time to leave, I got close to Aaron and thanked him for everything.

"Thank you, Aaron," I said, taking Dalton down from the bed.

"It's okay Samantha,  Dalton is a good kid, a son I wished I had,".
He says, caressing his hand on his cheeks.

If only he knew the truth.

Dalton grabbed my hands and we left together with mom.
We got home, Mrs. Jane helped me take him to his bedroom, and the moment the door to his bedroom, slammed closed, mom takes me back to her gaze.
"What is It, mom?".
I walked into the kitchen, and she came after.
"What do you mean what, don't tell me you don't see the handwriting on the wall,".
She said.

I turned back and admitted that I do see the handwriting on the wall.
But whatever it is, doesn't lead me into telling Aaron that the kid he saved, is the product of our past affair.

No way.
