"Alright, Frank, just take it easy," Elliot said, holding his hands up. "Relax."
"You ratted me out, Stabler. I trusted you, man, you know that? I named my kid after you."
"I didn't ask you to do that."
"You didn't stop me either, did you?"
"Yeah, but I know why you did it. You thought it'd secure my loyalty."
"I can see why they promoted you to detective," he said sarcastically. "Can you tell what I'm gonna do next?" Frank pointed the gun at Elliot's feet, slowly bringing it up to aim at his head.
Elliot swallowed hard. "Hey, easy. Take it easy, man. It doesn't have to be like this."
"Really? It doesn't? You're a rat, Stabler. Your dad would be real disappointed. Maybe the two of you can reunite in hell today."
"Shut up."
"Right. Sensitive stuff for the sweet little Catholic boy. I'm sure you won't burn in hell, buddy. I'm sure you'll make it to heaven."
"Quit playing games, Frank."
"You're no fun."
"You won't get away with this."
"I'm not getting away no matter what. Might as well add your death to my bill, it won't make any damn difference."
"I've got family. They need me."
"Family, huh? Would that happen to include the lovely Captain Benson?"
"Don't bring her into this."
"Another sensitive subject, I see. Awfully protective, aren't you? Over a woman that's not even yours. Or was she? Did you have her once or twice? Hot piece of ass like that, can't say I blame you."
"Shut up. You haven't got any idea what you're talking about."
"Really? Thirteen years and you never did her? Tell you honestly, I wouldn't last a week. What I wouldn't give to teach that woman a lesson. Female captain, I tell ya."
"Don't you say one more word about her."
"That a threat man? You think you've got any room to talk right now?" Frank cocked the gun when Elliot moved toward him. "I'd be careful if I was you."
Elliot took a step back, but Frank didn't lower the weapon.
"Frank, c'mon. Don't do this."
"You know what? I'm not in the mood for games. We're done."
Elliot set his jaw, willing himself not to close his eyes as he faced his death.
A shot rang out, and a body hit the floor.
Elliot's ears were ringing, and he inhaled sharply, expecting pain but realizing he was actually still standing.
"Elliot!"
He nearly did fall down when something, or rather someone, hit him from the side.
It was Olivia. She wrapped her arms tight around him, clinging to him like a koala.
"I thought you were gonna die," she whispered hoarsely, face pressed into the side of the neck.
Elliot took another breath, wrapping his arms up around her as best he could, unable to really move under her tight embrace. "It's okay. I'm okay."
"I can't lose you."
"Liv-"
"No, really." Olivia pulled back just enough to meet his eyes. "You don't understand. It would...." She took a shaky breath. "It would just kill me if something happened to you. All those years not knowing where you were, it was torture, but I knew you were out there somewhere at least."
"I'm not going anywhere."
"That a promise?"
"Yeah, it is. No more crazy undercover stunts. I don't want to risk not getting our time."
Olivia smiled at him. "Yeah?"
Elliot nodded. "Yeah. So, you gonna let me take you out to dinner?"
"I'll think about it while you wrap up this case."
He grinned. "That's a start."
