Kaitlyn was currently driving to Forks, Washington, where her uncle Charlie lived. She had asked him if she could stay with him for a little bit.
While she was driving, her phone rang. She saw it was her uncle. "Hello." Kaitlyn answered.
"Hey." Charlie said on the other line.
"Uncle Charlie, you of all people should know not to call anyone while they're driving." Kaitlyn said.
"I know. I'll be quick." Charlie said.
"If I get pulled over, I'm blaming you." Kaitlyn said.
Charlie chuckled. "I just wanted to know how far you were." He said.
"I'm driving through Port Angeles now." Kaitlyn replied. "It'll be another thirty minutes before I get into Forks."
"Alright." Charlie said. "I'll pick up a pizza for us. Pepperoni right?"
"Yep." Kaitlyn said. "Sounds good."
"See you, then." Charlie said.
"Bye." Kaitlyn said before hanging up. She continued driving.
When Kaitlyn pulled up to Charlie's house, he was waiting for her with the pizza in his hand.
"Don't tell me you've been waiting out here long with the pizza." Kaitlyn said as he climbed out of her car.
"No. I had just gotten back with the pizza, when I saw your car pulling into the the neighborhood." Charlie replied. "Hi sweetheart." He pulled her into a one armed hug and kissed her on the side of the head.
"Hey uncle Charlie." Kaitlyn said.
"Let's go inside and eat." Charlie said.
Kaitlyn followed him inside. The house looked exactly as she remembered it. Nothing about it had changed. When she was younger, Kaitlyn would spend summers with her uncle whenever Bella would visit. But, she stopped when Charlie started visiting Bella for summers. It had been years since she had seen her uncle. The last time she had seen him was her high school graduation. Kaitlyn loved her uncle very much and had seen him as a father figure ever since she was eleven. Her dad had been in the army and died during service when she was eleven. Charlie felt the same way about Kaitlyn. He thought of her as a second daughter.
"It's really good to see you again, Kaitlyn." Charlie said as they ate.
"You too, uncle Charlie." Kaitlyn said.
"How have you've been?" Charlie asked.
"I've been good." Kaitlyn replied. "What about you?"
"I'm good, as well." Charlie said.
"Thank you for letting me stay with you for a little bit." Kaitlyn said.
"Of course, Kaitlyn." Charlie said.
"I promise I won't be here long." Kaitlyn said. "Once I get a job and earn enough, I'll find my own place."
"Kaitlyn, you know you can stay here as long as you want." Charlie said. "And speaking of a job, I've already got you one."
"You didn't have to do that." Kaitlyn said.
"I wanted to help." Charlie said.
"Well, thank you." Kaitlyn said. "So, what is the job?"
"It's a receptionist job at the local hospital." Charlie explained. "You start tomorrow."
"Alright." Kaitlyn said. "Do you mind if I just head up to bed?"
"Yeah, of course. I can clean up dinner." Charlie said.
Kaitlyn nodded before heading out to her car to get her stuff. She didn't have a lot. Only two large suitcases.
"Here, let me help you with those." Charlie offered when Kaitlyn walked back into the house.
Kaitlyn let Charlie take one of the suitcases and followed him upstairs. He lead her to a room. Kaitlyn knew the room. She and Bella used to share it when they both would visit. Only now, there was only one bed.
"You still like blue, right?" Charlie asked.
"Yeah." Kaitlyn said. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." Charlie said. "Good night."
"Good night, uncle Charlie." Kaitlyn said. Charlie headed downstairs.
Kaitlyn unpacked what she had and got ready for bed.
