Preface: An Introduction
"Hi, my name is Lily Roberts. I'm twenty two years old and I have just graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Sociology. I'm trying out for the Voice because I've always loved singing and I felt it was time to act on my passion!" I said to the blinking red light emitting from the camera in front of me. I really can't believe I'm here trying out for The Voice! Ever since it aired on TV I'v watched it religiously, but I never thought I'd actually get the courage to try out myself.
"Ok Lily, that was great! You'll be going on in about three minutes so start heading to the wings!" on of the casting directors said as she moved on to interview the next contestant hopeful.
"Sure! No problem," I replied, wringing my hands together. Lily don't freak out, I thought to myself, everything will be great. But truthfully I'm so freaking nervous to get on stage in front of Adam fucking Levine. I've loved him since I first heard She Will Be Loved on the radio, and its been my favorite song since. I even decided to sing it for my audition, but now that I'm walking out onto the stage to sing it to Adam, I'm kinda rethinking that momentary burst of confidence.
The first bars start playing through the speakers as I take a deep breath. It's now or never Lily, I mutter under my breath, don't be a coward.
