The Night Kingdom
AUTHOR'S NOTE (Before I start the proper note, I will say that I will use brackets "[]" if I have an author's note within an actual chapter)
I would just like to say hi. Welcome to my story (this is technically my second, but I really was not feeling it for my first). This is... I suppose I could say that it's essentially Darkstalker with the Inscryption Scrybes' shared involvement. You'd only really see me talk like this, as much as I will below, on these "part" pages as it's just the part number and the title of the part on these. Anyway, let's get on with the characters.
----
First off, Leshy is now a NightWing/LeafWing hybrid... This will get pointed out to him quite often, though since the Pyrrhian tribes doubt Pantala's existence (with most not knowing it exists), no one will point it out that obviously. He, like Darkstalker and Whiteout, has mind-reading and prophecy at their peak strength. Unlike Darkstalker, however, Leshy is not an animus. He has his camera to compromise.
He prefers going by the name "Leshy," which is all he remembers of his past as the Scrybe of Beasts. The NightWings who refuse to use his nickname call him "Backstabber"... yeah, it would be obvious why Leshy would prefer his "nick"name (actually his real name but YAY! Memory loss).
His camera was near his egg when he hatched. It was found by Arctic, who gave it to Whiteout, who figured out it was Leshy's and returned it to him. They all call it "the box" as its form changed from a camera to a lidded box that, if someone puts a scroll in, points it at someone or something, and says a word, a drawing of them magically appears in the Inscryption Act 1 style, and with the card-centric stuff around the image so it can be (carefully) ripped out and used.
Much like how Darkstalker and Clearsight (for most of the book) saw that they'd be in love, Leshy and Whiteout are the same, though they both see other futures where Whiteout's with Thoughtful (just like in Darkstalker) and Leshy's with... I'm not going to spoil it, but if you know the joke... yeah. Due to this, they don't really care that much if their relationship doesn't work out.
As for what happened... well... Leshy managed to get into the file access at the same time as Grimora. While Luke Carder and Grimora were playing their game, Leshy managed to locate the file that initializes the Scrybes in their locations when the "New Game" button is clicked. He was modifying it so it can exist in a void and be able to run its initialization while Grimora was saying her final words to Luke.
During his own battle with the unknowingly-doomed YouTuber, he was doing what P03 did, but instead of all of Inscryption, it was only the Scrybe file, still affected by the OLD_DATA. Leshy (and the other three, unbeknownst to him) being in stasis was the file floating around the internet until it latched onto something. However, it latched onto... not quite what he thought it would. It was not some mere other game, but an entire, separate world from his own.
However, because they were all far away from the OLD_DATA on the brightest night, when they made their "grand" return, none of the Scrybes are able to remember their pasts like they did whenever someone started a new game of Inscryption.
----
Darkstalker is forced, as shown in the prologue, to watch himself redo everything he's done over and over again, never stopping for a break, never able to change anything until it's too early or too late. Thankfully, because of what Leshy did, he finally has a chance to break out of the endless loop he's been stuck in for at least a million years.
Darkstalker is still the same he's ever been, but now, for this cycle, he has a new friend in Leshy. Also, he is slightly annoyed that his mom is so dismissive of Whiteout... pretty much, Foeslayer treats Whiteout similarly to how Arctic treats Darkstalker. This makes him confused as he can no longer just pin the blame on Arctic being a bad parent, seeing how the roles are swapped for Whiteout with Arctic being the perfect parent and Foeslayer being... admittedly nasty to her with how little she cares about his sister.
Besides that, Darkstalker is, at the start anyway, pretty much the same. This won't last.
----
Whiteout may be just another cycle of who she once was, but her differences from how she usually is is even more obvious than Leshy's presence is at a base. This is all because of how (even though she's still not an animus) she was gifted the power of the three moons just like Darkstalker and Leshy.
Like what was said before, Whiteout can see that she could be in love with either Leshy or Thoughtful, or maybe even a different dragon entirely, so that could be a bit of an impact. Also like what was said, Arctic loves everything to do with Whiteout (he will even look past her synesthesia) while Foeslayer is completely dismissive of her due to the sheer fact that Foeslayer didn't assume that Whiteout would hatch that night, having never seen the futures Darkstalker and Leshy had seen on account for the fact that Foeslayer is completely normal. Whiteout hatching had broken Foeslayer's assumptions and, even worse, it made Arctic almost unbearable.
This is the opposite of Darkstalker's case, where his mother loves him and his father is more than just a little abusive. This makes it hard for Whiteout to hate Foeslayer back for the exact same reason why Darkstalker is now finding it hard to hate Arctic back for all the abuse the IceWing caused him.
However, just like in Darkstalker, Arctic and Foeslayer argue a lot and, just like in Darkstalker, it usually terrifies Whiteout, for even more reasons than when she barely had the gifts as now she can hear their angry thoughts that they'd usually avoid keeping to themselves and see the sheer, out-of-control multitudes of bloody futures just like Darkstalker (and, later when they meet, Clearsight) can. It's usually Darkstalker or Leshy (when he visits) who break the fights up, though there may be a few cases where someone else keeps the fights in check.
----
I would also like to mention that, while Clearsight and Fathom are still here, Leshy and Whiteout will be taking their places as the other two POV characters. This is because, save for a few... incidents... as well as the general fact that Leshy's there with an animus-touched box (with no one knowing who enchanted it) their stories will be almost completely unchanged. Make of that what you will.
----
The first proper chapter focuses on Whiteout to make up for her not having a prologue.
