The sun was shining on the entire student body of Woodsboro High who were spread out all along the campus. Everyone was reconnecting with their friends and catching them up on how their summer break went. There was laughter and smiles all around, but deep down anyone walking by these different groups knew that they were all putting on an act. No one seemed to ever genuinely care how others were doing. They needed to seem authentic enough so they could keep their rank in the high school hierarchy. People only seemed to care about their own gain and didn't care what they had to do to make it to the top. That's just how the world of high school worked. You have to fake it until you make it.

Josie Prescott exited her parked car, throwing her bag over her shoulder. Grabbing her coffee from the top of the car before she headed towards the school building. She was less than thrilled to be back around everyone, but she needed to suck it up. The coffee she had was her kickstart to her day that she was starting, only running on a couple of hours of sleep.

"Good morning, Josie. Are you ready for tryouts after school?" Casey Becker, the captain of the cheer team and one of Josie's close girl friends asked as she began to walk alongside Josie.

"Hey, Case. Am I really needed for tryouts today? I was hoping to get an early shift today so then I don't have to get home so late." Josie wondered.

"Of course I need you there, silly. I need the co-captains opinion on who makes the cut. However... as long as you're there for at least a half an hour then you're off the hook for the rest of the day." Casey bargained and Josie smiled softly at the girl. Casey understood Josie's stress, she worked harder than anyone she knew. And she also knew that the Prescott girl was constantly walking on thin ice around her parents.Casey was appreciative of the girl who worked her ass off to show up to practice and games while also balancing her school work and her job at the diner. The Becker girl always had to sweet talk the Prescott's into letting Josie come over for the night every now and then. Going to the Becker's house was Josie's breath of relief half of the time.

"Thanks, Casey." Josie said.

"So, I'm thinking..."

"Oh this should be good." Josie teased as Casey acted like she was offended.

"We need to put ourselves out there. Or at least you." Casey trailed off as Josie gave her an annoyed look.

"Come on, Josie. It's our junior year. You haven't gone out on a date since freshman year." Casey brought up.

"Yeah, because that was a horrible double-date that you set up." Josie pointed out.

"How was I supposed to know that he had a girlfriend?" Casey tried to defend herself.

"Casey, he was one of the star players on the football team. If you had told me what the guy's name was before the double-date we could've avoided all of that." Josie said, causing Casey to frown.

"Josie, that was one bad experience. How bad can it be now? I will keep you in the loop now. You can't tell me there isn't a boy you had your eyes on." Casey tried to get the girl to fold.
