Chapter 14
'Three Words'
Ross should be mad at her mother for only booking them one room, but he couldn't. The hotel was fully booked thanks to the wedding and the convention happening in the city, so they had no choice. He, Rachel, and Emma had to stay in the same room for the rest of the week and even when he loved the idea of being so close to his two girls, he didn't want to make her uncomfortable.
"I'll sleep on the couch and you can take the bed." Ross said as he brought the last batch of their luggage inside the room.
"Okay." Rachel nodded slowly, still looking around the room.
It was awkward, but he refused to let it get to them. He wanted to enjoy this weekend away with them, it was their first vacation as a family and he'd never known when they could do this again in the future.
"Do you wanna go out for dinner?" Ross asked, moving across the room toward the travel cot to give Emma her sippy cup. "My cousin told me about this new place near our hotel. It's a family restaurant so it's kids friendly."
"Sure." Rachel smiled and Ross could feel she was starting to relax a bit.
"Great." Ross grinned. "Go get ready and I'll call to make a reservation."
It was a great idea to bring them here, Ross thought as the three of them enjoyed their dinner. The waitress kept referring to Rachel as Mrs. Geller and she said nothing to correct them, instead she just smiled politely at them. Ross loved it. He loved the way her cheeks would turn crimson and her eyes sparked a bit every time they referred to her as his wife.
There was a part of him that always wanted to believe that she was still in love with him, tonight proved to him that he might be right. After all, she had said she wanted to be with him too. She just needed time to be ready.
"You know, we should start planning for Emma's first birthday party." She started, glancing at his direction for a moment before returning her attention back to their daughter - assisting her to eat. "Her birthday is in two weeks and I want to do something special for our baby girl."
"We can do that." Ross agreed. "Where do you want to have the party? Our apartment?"
"Yeah." She breathed. "I'm thinking of making it small, just our friends and parents. If that's okay with you."
"Of course." Ross nodded, taking another bite of his food.
"-and I'm thinking that maybe we can order the cake from that little bakery near my office. My friend said they're delicious." Rachel continued to talk. "For the theme, maybe we can do a princess. I saw this cute princess dress last week at the mall and I bought it. You should see how cute she is in that dress. Remind me to show you once we're home."
Ross just smiled and listened to her ramble more and more about the idea for Emma's first birthday party, her eyes twinkled with excitement. She was so excited about the party, it was so adorable to watch.
"I'm gonna go to the restroom real quick."
Ross nodded and watched her leave. He smiled and shook his head before scooting closer to wipe the remnants of food from Emma's cheeks.
