Chapter 18

'Sometimes the Truth Hurts'

Rachel felt like a teenager again as she and Ross walked toward the coffee house together hand-in-hand, listening to him whisper sweet nothings to her ears whilst stealing kisses to her cheeks.

Life was good.

Life was indeed perfect.

It had been a month after they were back together again and things couldn't be more perfect. They had a date night every Friday - barring any emergency - like they had promised each other. Their date was usually short - mindful of their recently turned one-year-old daughter, but it didn't really bother them since they spent most of their waking hour together, even at lunch breaks. She'd sneaked into his NYU office, bringing lunch to eat with him and he'd do the same for her the next day. They'd stayed in their offices until their lunch hour was over - just talking, joking, and of course, making out.

Dating as parents offered its own challenges, but so far they've managed to make sure that they too had a quality time as a couple without neglecting their duties as parents. Their children were definitely their first priority, including Ben, who had been thrilled by their good news. Ben had been spending a lot of weekends with Ross and Rachel, and together with Emma, they'd spent their weekend as a family of four.

Seeing Ross as a father made Rachel think about their future. A future she wasn't sure she was supposed to think about in this early stage of their relationship, but still, Rachel couldn't help it. She'd find herself dreaming about the house he used to talk about, a big house outside the city with huge backyards the kids could play in and maybe a pool for them to chill in the summer. She dreamed about being a wife, of what it felt like to marry the love of her life and be the mother of all their children.

Rachel stole another glance at him and she smiled. She loved this man so much, sometimes she wondered why they took so long to be together again. She couldn't wait for all those things to happen, she wanted to marry him, but at the same time she knew they weren't ready for those things.

She wasn't ready.

"What?" He asked, feeling her staring at him.

"Nothing.." She whispered and shrugged. "Just.. happy.."

"Me too.." He squeezed her hand and he smiled at him, kept walking toward their destination.

Not long after, they were the first ones to arrive at the coffee house. Ross went to order them their choice of drinks whilst Rachel settled herself at the large orange couch, waiting for him.

"Guess what?" Rachel practically bounced in her seat, grinning as Ross sat next to her - his arm automatically went to her shoulder.

"What?" Ross asked, amused at his girlfriend's child-like behavior.

"I got an interview with Gucci in a couple of days!" She informed him. "Gucci, Ross! Do you know how big that is?"

"I know and I'm really proud of you." Ross grinned and kissed her.

"Do you?" Rachel asked, still not believing him. "It's a luxury clothing brand. I've been collecting their bags since forever. This is big, so big.." She sighed, looking at him with a hint of nervousness that Ross couldn't miss.

"I know, sweetie. Believe me, I do." Ross laughed and kissed her again before grabbing her hands and rested them on his laps. "-but you're going to nail the interview. You're going to come and meet them and you're going to impress them so much, they'll hire you right away."
