you and olivia had been dating for almost a year before your relationship was uncovered by the public.
everyone knew, from your families to people you guys considered close friends. though it was actually one of your close friends who accidentally leaked your relationship to the public.
it was one of your friends birthday so olivia insisted on hosting, so everyone came over. everyone talked and laughed throughout the night, many videos and pictures were taken and posted, and perhaps a couple drinks.
it wasn't until the next morning when everyone's phones were blowing up about a video that seemingly blew up overnight.
you woke up with a pounding headache from the night before, and reached over your phone and saw the hundreds of notifications, and one more rolling in from your girlfriend as you opened your phone.
"shit." you muttered under your breath as you read all the texts from your shaken up girlfriend.
now the problem here wasn't, 'relationships out now everyone knows', it was more of, now people know olivia's not necessarily straight.
she always told you the reason she never wanted to go public was because she was afraid of what everyone was going to say. you were the first girl olivia ever really liked, and her coming to terms with those feelings was hard and scary for her, and now that everyone knows... well it's a hell of a lot scarier.
you quickly got up and gave her a call. the phone only rung once before you were greeted with a bunch of words you couldn't understand.
"olivia slow down." you said as you stopped in front of your bathroom door.
you heard her let out a sigh, "there's a video... of us." she whispered.
"i mean how bad is it?" you said as you walked into the bathroom and hit the lights. you looked in the mirror as you waited for a response, but heard nothing. you checked your phone to see if you had accidentally hung up but you were still on the call, "hello?" you asked.
"it's bad baby... i mean you can barely see us but you can so clearly tell..." she went quiet for a second, "god what am i gonna do, i've already got hundreds of calls from my manager and team." you heard her voice crack slightly and knew it was only a matter of time until she completely broke down.
"listen, you're going to be okay, everything is going to be okay." you said as you spit out your toothpaste and walked out the bathroom.
"it's not okay baby, and i'm not okay either, im scared, what if this ruins everything." she said in between sniffles. "and it's only a matter of time till mainstream news outlets write articles."
"darling, relax, can you send me the video?" you asked. she didn't respond, instead your heard your phone buzz as she had sent the video.
you opened up the text and watched the video, you had to admit it was pretty bad, you could barely see the two of you but it was obvious it was you and olivia.
now the video itself wasn't bad, it was the two of you in the back of a friends instagram story sharing a kiss on the couch. the video is mainly focused on your friend doing something stupid as someone recorded them, but in the background you can see olivia walking up to you on the couch, sitting on your lap and giving you a kiss, then looked at whatever was on your phone at the time.
you exited out the video and put your phone back up to your ear, "okay, it's not that bad liv, it's just a kiss." you said as you put on a fresh outfit and shoes.
"babe you're not understanding... i don't care if the video seems bad or not, it's already out there and everyone knows now." she said a bit angrily. "it's just-" she paused for a brief moment, "i wasn't ready." she sighed.
you knew this feelings, a little too well. you knew what she was going through, so you couldn't be mad at her for being upset.
"listen im coming over. i'll talk to you in 10?" you asked. you heard a soft okay and hung up.
you grabbed your keys and made your way to your car and drove over to your girlfriends apartment complex.
once you arrived, you made your way to her apartment. you grabbed the key she had given you a while back and unlocked the door. "liv?" you called out. you ventured into her apartment as you looked for her.
you found her on her bathroom floor, you sat down next to her, "li-" you were cut off when she rushed into your arms. you rubbed her back as you softly spoke, "hey, it's going to be okay, maybe it's a good thing it's out..."
olivia sniffled before speaking into your chest "it's not that i don't want people knowing it's just that im scared." she said all muffled. you eyed her as you didn't understand a single word. she understood that by your silence as she pulled back and looked at you before repeating herself.
you grabbed her hand and looked her in the eyes, "i promise you, we will be alright darling." you smiled, causing olivia to smile as her eyes glistened from the tears that were at the brim of her eyes.
"maybe you're right." she smiled sheepishly. "but um now that it's kind of out, do you still want to hide us?" she asked.
"i'm fine with whatever you choose to do darling." you said before leaning in to give her a reassuring kiss.
since that day, you and olivia have been more public about your relationship, though neither of you ever confirmed it, everyone knew, and that was okay with both of you.
