upon walking into the building i had a slight feeling of dread. it wasn't too overwhelming but it's still enough to make me feel anxious. i've been in this building for 15 seconds and i already wanted to leave. i took a deep breath and tried to ignore the way this place makes me feel. i'm surprised by the inside, it looked nicer than what i expected. i thought there would be mold and rats everywhere. ash and i stayed by the front door while larry and my sister walked up to a door. i watched him knock on it, the mail slot opened. "oh, hello there larry what can i do for you?"
"hey mr. addison, i have someone interested in living here" larry looked at her. jen bent down a little bit to talk to him.
"hello young lady" he said in a cheery tone.
larry walked past ash and i, i followed behind him into the elevator. ash stood outside of the steel doors.
"you guys go ahead i'm gonna check on sal " she said.
"okay, meet you in my room" larry replied.

the doors closed. i watched as larry pulled out a keycard and inserted it into a slot before pressing a button labeled 'B' the doors closed and the elevator made its way down the floor.
"you live in the basement?" i asked.
"oh yeah my mom works here so she gets this place for free" the doors opened and i followed larry to his place. we reached his apartment door, he opened it and let us in. it was a pretty nice place. i wonder if all the apartments have a different layout from the basement.
"larry is that you?" i heard a woman yell in a nasal tone.
"yeah it's me" he said walking to a door he opened it. i stayed by the front door.
"lar bear i'm not feeling so good, i think i caught whatever sal had" she said, letting out a cough.
"want me to heat up soup for you or get you medicine?" he asked.
she let out a sneeze "no no i'll be fine for now, thank you"
Larry looked at me for a second then back to his mom "hey mom i have a friend over, is that okay?"
  "yeah yeah just be careful"
"don't worry i will" larry replied as he closed the door, i walked up to him. "hey y/n i'm sorry i dont think imma go to the party, i wanna make sure my mom is okay"
  "oh it's okay" i said.
"great thanks for understanding, wanna go to my room?" he asked. i nodded
his room was decorated with posters all over the walls, a lot were from bands. i took a mental note to keep track of all the bands i saw. there were some articles of clothing scattered around the floor along with two bean bags. near the door there were some paintings. Saying they were beautiful was an understatement. The current one he was working on caught my eye. It was of a lake with mountains in the background. The sky was a midnight blue and the moon was half full. It gave me a sense of deja vu.
"i like your art" i said while pointing at his paintings.
  "oh thanks man"
i walked over to a beanbag next to a dresser and sat down, larry sat down on the other bean bag.
"so..." i started "what's up with the addison guy?" i asked
"i'm not really sure myself. I've never seen him leave his room. My mom mentioned something about him developing agoraphobia after his parents died." before i could ask him another question i heard a knock at the door.
"come in" larry said. the door opened to reveal ash.
"hey guys, did i miss anything?" she asked. larry and i looked at each other and shook our heads.
"not much but my mom caught whatever sal has so i'm staying home to take care of her"
"aww that sucks." she placed her bag near the door and fell onto his bed letting out a sigh.
"how's sally face doing?" larry asked.
"not sure i knocked but he didn't answer the door, i'm starting to get really worried about him, he's never like this when he's sick" she said in a concerned tone
"it might be cold medicine, whenever i take some i get knocked out" i intervened
"yeah that could be it,"ash replied.
larry cleared his throat. "so we got some time before you guys leave for the party, wanna watch a movie?"

"are you sure you still want to go to the party? you can stay over at my house" ash asked.
earlier ash called her grandma and asked if she could stay later at larrys but she had to watch her brother tonight since her grandma had to go out of town on short notice.
  "yeah im sure'' i replied
"okay okay, i just dont think it'll be a good idea because you're not gonna have anyone you know there" ash had some concern in her voice.
does she actually care about me?
"i get that, i just wanna try to make more friends as soon as possible. ya know?"
i just wanna distract myself from how i'm feeling.
  she nodded.
"it's not that far away just go east then turn left at the church, my place is the other way"
"okay bye" as we went our separate ways.
