Katelyn glanced at the clock on her phone before dialing her friend's number. Twenty minutes sure does go by slow during a time like this. Where are you guys?
She waited, anxious to hear her voice on the other end of line. It rang four times. She went to hang up, but something told her to wait for one more ring, so she did.
"Hello?"
"Miranda, it's Katelyn."
"Katelyn! Are you all right? I've been praying for you all night."
Katelyn wasn't sure how to answer Miranda's question. She didn't want her to think she was crazy. "No, I'm not. I've been through some strange things these last couple weeks."
Katelyn waited for Miranda to reply, but she didn't, so Katelyn went on. "I guess you could say my eyes have been opened. Anyway I was wondering if you would tell me about – about God."
"Yes, I can. What would you like to know?"
All of Katelyn's other inquiries would be based off Miranda's response to her first and foremost question, so that's where she started. "Is God, real? I mean really real?"
"What do you think about Him? Do you think He's real?"
She hadn't expected her former friend to reply the way she did. It was a simple yes or no question, or so she had thought. "Honestly, up until today, no I didn't believe in Him. I thought the whole idea of God, and His wondrous love was a joke. I thought people used Him as a crutch. As something to lean on to try and calm their own conscience, I guess."
"And now?"
"Now, now I'm starting to think He's real."
"He is real, Katelyn. He is very real. And so is His love for you. He thinks about you. He knows you."
"Yeah, so I've been told. I can't quite wrap my head around that, though. It's a strange concept to me."
"Who told you?"
"Miranda, I don't know if you'd believe me if I told you." Katelyn rethought her statement. "Well, maybe you would."
"I'm listening."
Katelyn cleared her throat. "Don't hang up on me."
"I won't."
"An angel told me."
"An angel."
"See, I knew you would think I was crazy."
"No, Katelyn, I don't think you're crazy. I think you are very blessed, loved, and guarded. I believe all His children are."
"But that's just it, Miranda, I'm not a child of God. I don't know much about how all that works, but I'm pretty sure I'm not God's child."
"That may be true, if you haven't accepted Jesus as your Savior, but you can be. You can be a child of God."
"But why would He send His angels when I'm not His child? Why would He want to protect me and look out for me even though I haven't accepted Jesus?"
"Because He's reaching out to you, Katelyn. And He's reaching out to you because He loves you."
"It's hard to believe that God would love me. You have no idea the things I've done in my life."
"You're right. I don't know. But He does, and He still loves you...in spite of it all. He sent His Son to a lost and dying world. Not to one that was perfect. We have all sinned. We all fall short of the glory of God. We all make mistakes. Yet, He still loves us. He still wants us to choose life."
