Chapter 19

"I've got to think of something fast!" Sonic looked at the copy of an emerald and picked it up. At that moment, he remembered what Tails said. "Same wavelengths and properties... huh?" He raised the emerald high. "Chaos Control!"

The fake emerald lit up and suddenly he saw that he was in another room. He fell over and groaned.

"Sonic!" Knuckles ran toward him. "What happened? Are you okay?"

"Fine..." He mumbled and pushed himself up. "I wasn't sure that was gonna work."

"What?" Knuckles examined him. Sonic noticed the master emerald beside Knuckles, and he smiled.

"Oh, looks like you found the rest of the emerald pieces after all."

"Don't change the subject! What's going on!?"

"Eggman found out we had a fake, a copy of the emerald, so he trapped me in a capsule. If it weren't for chaos control, I would've been a fried hedgehog." He brushed himself off. "He's probably gotten ahold of the real one by now. I gotta hurry and find Tails, and make sure Amy is okay!"

"Wait wait wait. Amy? Did you find her? Why should we help her?"

"I have a feeling that Dr. Eggman and her had some sort of altercation. It wasn't a good one." Sonic stretched his arm. "There's no time to waste! Let's go!"

"Wait a second! You're still pretty banged up! And what about the cannon?"

"You're right!" Sonic stopped. "Could you go and check on Tails and Amy for me? I'm gonna head toward the Eclipse cannon and dunk this emerald with the rest."

"Will do." Knuckles nodded.

"You never cease to surprise me, blue hedgehog." Shadow walked alongside Sonic casually. "The capsule was supposed to explode with you inside."

"Long time no see Shadow," Sonic smirked in response. "Eggman can't kill me that easily. And besides, you sort of saved me." Sonic twirled the fake chaos emerald in his fingers, tossing it from hand to hand.

"Isn't that emerald a fake?" Shadow clenched his fist. "There's no way you could've activated chaos control with that emerald."

"There's a lot of things you don't know about me, or what I can do." Sonic smiled.

"Humph! I suppose there is more to you than looking like me." Shadow narrowed his eyes. "What exactly are you?"

"Can't you tell?" Sonic flashed him a wide smile. "I'm a hedgehog! Sonic is the name!" Sonic sped off in the direction of the cannon, with Shadow following close behind.

"You may have some wit with words, but it doesn't change the fact that I can't let you live." Shadow spat. "Your time is running out!"

"First you'll have to catch me!" Sonic laughed.

"You make it too easy! Chaos control!" Shadow vanished and appeared in front of Sonic. Sonic hopped over him effortlessly and ran.

"Not so easy is it?" Sonic winked.

"RAGH!" Shadow snarled.

"Are you guys okay?" Knuckles rushed over to Tails. "What's with her?" He pointed to Amy, who was crouched over hugging her legs and her face hurried into her knees. "I guess the weight of your actions was too heavy for you to handle, huh?" Knuckles teased her, and Tails elbowed him in the torso. "Ow? What was that for?"

"Now isn't the time to mock her Knuckles. Eggman attacked her and she's going through it. She's not an enemy, she's on our side." Tails replied harshly, while Amy kept herself silent. "Amy, see everything is okay. I told you Knuckles would come to help!"
