James looked up when Carson cleared his throat handing him a letter from the afternoon post. James sighed when he saw who it was from. 'The war office'. He knew it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Robert noticed James was shifting back and forth on his feet. "Whatever is the matter, James?"he asked.

The young man stepped forward and handed him an envelope. A very familiar one to a former soldier. "It's time then?"

 "It's time then?"

"So it would seem. I wouldn't go if i did not have to. Papa. This could be hard for Mama."

"I know, Son, but she's a lot stronger than most believe."

Sybil nodded in agreement. "I would have to agree, Papa"
