Lucinde remained on the floor in shock as the realization of being in the body of the antagonist Lucinde dawned upon her. She was too afraid to open her eyes and face anyone, especially one of her favorite characters from the story. She wanted to see Ezra in real life. That was her last thought before falling asleep moments ago. She should be delighted with being able to finally see him. However, she never expected to see him like this.
As she remained still in her place, she heard light footsteps coming in her direction. Before she could even dare open her eyes, she felt her body being covered by a soft blanket. She froze in place, not knowing how to react.
"I-I...I'm sorry for coming here. I know that you would prefer me to stay away from you," an unfamiliar voice that Lucinde assumed to be Ezra said with sadness in his tone. She could tell that he had a lot to say but it seemed that he was reluctant to say anything due to the original Lucinde's attitude towards him.
"It's fine if you hate me but just...take care of yourself. I can't stand it that you're being like this," he stated. Upon hearing this, Lucinde suddenly realized that her refusal to face him or even look at him would be seen as an act of hatred. Not wanting to be misunderstood by the very character that she wanted to meet, she opened her eyes.
As soon as she did so, she couldn't help but freeze in place as she admired the face that she was seeing. He was better than those fanarts that she admired. She was lost in her own world as she stared at him. Ezra possessed a light tan complexion and curly blond hair. He reminded her of a cherub. She couldn't help but squeal in excitement upon seeing him in front of her.
Ezra saw the expression on her face and was dumbfounded. Why was she looking at him with those eyes? It appeared as if she was attracted to him. He started to wonder if the fight with Annalise made her lose some sanity.
"Um. Lucinde, I don't want to seem rude but are you okay? You are acting a bit strange," he said as he witnessed the girl in front of him admire his face. Upon hearing this, Lucinde blushed in embarrassment as she shifted her gaze to the floor. She wanted to bury herself in the ground.
"I-I. You see..," she started but stopped as she started panicking about what she should say. This was a situation that she never encountered before. What should she say? Apologize for the mistake of the original owner of her current body? Should she stay silent and act like she lost her memory?
She began looking back on the stories she read that had the same situation as her. She can't exactly use amnesia as an excuse due to the fact that the situation does not seem believable. Aside from this, apologizing right now would cause Ezra to misunderstand it. He would probably think that she wasn't being serious.
"Wait. What day is today?" she blurted out the question as she suddenly thought of using her familiarity of the story as an advantage. Ezra grew even more confused with her question.
"It's the 14th of February," he said with a disheartened tone in his voice. It seemed that he was remembering something that would forever haunt his mind. When Lucinde suddenly looked up, she saw the heartbroken expression on his face. She could see in his eyes that he was holding back his emotions. His nails were digging through the palms of his hands.
"Isn't that the day that Lucinde slept with alpha Kent? She did it to make Annalise jealous and brag about having her first time taken by him. Oh no," she thought to herself. Her eyes widened with this as she began freaking out of how to handle this situation.
Lucinde knew that Ezra probably knew already of what happened. The scent of alpha Kent was all over her body. She felt sick upon thinking about it. She wanted to throw up with the thought of having her body defiled by the arrogant jerk that she hated in the story.
"E-Ezra. You see...I-I..," she started stuttering out of panic. What should she do? How would she be able to handle this? She began sitting up and hugging her knees as she started to let her anxiety overtake her. She wanted to throw herself out of the window to escape from this hell. She never wished for this. She never wanted to be in this story. She needed to go back to her own world. She cannot handle this. She wasn't prepared for this. Those thoughts rushed in her mind the more she reflected onto her current state.
"Someone kill me now!" she suddenly yelled as she began running towards the window. She started opening the window and grabbing the windowsill. As she did so, she heard footsteps running after her.
"W-Wait! Stop! What are you doing?!" Ezra yelled from behind her. His voice was filled with shock and worry as she began trying lift one leg over the windowsill. "Don't!"
Before she could even jump out for the window, arms wrapped around waist and pulled her away. They both fell onto the floor as a result of her struggle to get out of his grip. Another factor that came into play was the difference in strength. As a daughter of the beta, the antagonist Lucinde was physically stronger.
"Lucinde. Don't do this to yourself. Tell me what's wrong," Ezra asked as he began to worry for his mate's state of mind. Lucinde couldn't help but breakdown in tears due to the whole transmigration predicament that she got herself into. She was already burned out from her studies and the pressure her family placed on her and now, she's trapped in this antagonist's body with all her mistakes. All the frustration and stress that she has been bottling inside her exploded as Ezra tried to calm her.
