Having been presumed dead, Akira woke up without any recollection of who he was. The only thing he does remember was his name, and the memory of a vivid ravenette with blood red eyes, along with her kind smile.
However, there is another thing he doe...
What were the last moments she saw? She couldn't remember. It all happened so fast that she couldn't comprehend what had occurred.
Ah, now she remembered. He remembered him saying, "I'm sorry," as well as giving her one last smile. She and he promised that they'd be together, that they'd stay alive until the very end. However, there were other questions she asked herself. What was she going to tell Air? The daughter they loved and ended up adopting, even if they didn't sign any official documents or anything like that. She was still their daughter.
Groaning to herself, Akame woke up. She found herself where she was last awake. The tunnel had collapsed completely right after Akira had thrown to save her, but gave up his own life in the process. The ravenette heard whining, turning her head to her left to see Fenrir nudging it's head against her. He was saddened, concerned for his co-owner, but also saddened that it's owner had left this world. Holding back a sob, Akame pet the wolf's head, soon standing up and quickly heading for the surface whilst Fenrir stayed behind, curling itself as it remained by it's master's side, who laid under the rubble. She couldn't let his sacrifice go to waste, and she had to end the one other objective they had.
It's what he would've wanted.

Flashback
In a doctor's tent, Akame, Najenda, and Akira stood in front of the doctor that was previously tending to Tatsumi regarding his merging with Incursio. As she was now, Akame had stood no chance against the Empire's Strongest, Esdeath. The only one who really stood a chance against her was Akira, who's training wasn't nearly on par as her, but he was much stronger than his raven-haired partner.
So to boost their chances, Akame had suggested doping, to increase her strength. However...
Doctor: "I'm against it."
Akira: "I'm gonna be honest, I'm am too. And don't suggest any other reckless ideas."
Akame stayed silent. She lowered her head as she looked down at her feet.
Akame: "Seeing Wave, I thought I could do it, but... It really is a matter of compatibility... Possessing two Teigus is just not possible. Murasame's the only one I can use. So my only option left is to dose myself."
Akira: "I can understand that, but..."
Akame: "But what?"
Akira: "I just..." (sigh) "I don't want you to end up like Kurome. I'd hate to see you in pain like that."
Akame: "Akira. Trust me on this. Please?"
Akira: "..." (relenting sigh) "Fine."
Doctor: "...Using it will bring results, that much is certain. But even if it works out, once you use such a powerful drug, all your sharpened senses from growing up in the wild will be dulled. As an assassin whose life hangs by a thread, that could spell utter disaster. I'm saying there could be adverse effects."
Akame: "As long as it works this one time, I'm okay with that. Besides, this will be my final battle. Our job is to make Esdeath rest in pieces. And I want to increase the chances of accomplishing that, even if it's only by 1%."
