Scottie's POV
When we got to their camp I was met with an arrow flying at my head, though that became quite common for me since sophomore year, so I snagged it out of the air without pausing in my steps and neither did Artemis, though she did look to see who fired the arrow.
"Go sit by the campfire while I address my hunters." Artemis says and I do as she asked.
I hear outrage about something before another arrow is fired at me but I just tilt my head and dodge it before I hear Artemis yell.
"Let me finish talking before you assume things!" She yelled and I heard her anger but also her worry. "She is not of Lycaon's pack nor of their species of werewolf!" She said and I heard gasps of surprise. "She's of the supernatural kind not the mythological kind, though she is also a demigod."
"Who's her parent?" I heard one of the girls ask.
"This is based on what was said by the empousa we were chasing, she is a daughter of Athena." Artemis answered. "But we will not know for certain until we get to camp half-blood for the Greek's parent's day event."
"Will she become a hunter?" Another girl asked.
"No, she'll become the guardian of the hunt due to circumstances that will not be stated as of yet." Artemis answered.
"How are you so sure we can trust her if she won't even join the hunt properly?" Another of the girls asked.
"Have my decisions ever led us astray?" Artemis asked bluntly and nobody voiced against that. "Then trust me when I say you can trust her, I'm not saying you have to do so right away, I'm just saying to give her a chance."
After that nobody else spoke up and I heard somebody approach. I turned and it was the girl with black hair that got the outfit for me on Artemis' request. She didn't say anything, she just sat beside me silently. Neither speaking, both waiting for the other to start.
"My name is Thalia, I'm the lieutenant of the hunt." She said and I nodded my head.
"You're the second in command, am I correct?" I asked and she nodded. "I'm Scottie, it's nice to meet you."
"Are you certain the empousa said you were the daughter of Athena, your hair and eyes are brown and all other children of Athena's are blonde and their eyes are gray." She said and I shrugged.
"I don't really know, all I know is that they called me wisdom's spawn." I repeated the phrase they used. "So, unless me being a werewolf threw them for a loop and they mistook me for a child of a god or goddess or the wrong one, that's what I am."
"Then again two Tyson didn't take after his father's eyes or hair so you wouldn't be the first." Thalia said, shrugging.
"Well, I see you two get along fine." Artemis said, walking over to us. "I need to speak with Scottie for a couple minutes."
I stood up and she walked away signaling me to follow her, so I did exactly that. She led me to a tent and we entered. She looked a bit nervous and I didn't like it and neither did my wolf side.
"What's wrong?" I asked her softly.
"It's about your duty as guardian, it's a very dangerous position that has never been held by one person for more than a year." Artemis said sadly. "As Guardian your duty is to protect the members of the hunt as best as you can." She said and that was obvious. "If a hunting party branches off from the main group you are to go with it since they will be weaker than the main group, and if multiple groups branch off you are expected to go with the group that has the least likelihood of coming back safe and alive." She continues and I can tell she isn't liking this situation in the slightest. "If it is unclear which that is, either I or my lieutenant will tell you which group to go with."
