Vladmyr hurried across the Port as hundred if not thousands of Civilians were making their way towards various Cruisers all intending to escape Earth from the ongoing Siege. The smell of gunpowder clung to the air as the massive Mechs wielded by both sides sang songs of gunfire and explosions blanketing the once beautiful blue sky of Earth into hellish dark red as above the Orbit warships continued their battles above as now and then ships would descend into the earth in a fiery blaze destroying anything in its path.

Despite the chaos and anarchy going along the streets, as parents cling to their children comforting them despite being just as if not more than afraid than them, Soldiers continued to march on about with their guns forgetting the civilians that have more or less begun to riot and stampede towards the nearest gate to a Cruiser. Vladmyr was calm as his pregnant had entered the cruiser and is safe, being part of the Emergency Medical Team he had a duty to ensure that the Civilians continued to evacuate to the ships safely.

His thoughts were immediately interrupted by the sound of a child crying. Running towards the. Where then he found himself looking at a three-year-old boy trying to wake up his mother, desperately crying out for her to wake up. But he can see all too well that she wasn't as she was lying face-first into the ground while an empty shell from a Mech lay nearby. It seems that in their attempt to escape the mother was struck in the head by a falling shell killing her.

The Intercom, which continued to only blare out emergency messages in between the alarm, began to utter one message in repeat that brought fear into everyone including Vladmyr.

All Cruisers will be bound for Take-off in thirty minutes! Repeat! All Cruisers will be bound for Take-off in thirty minutes!

I'm sorry. He thought to himself as picked up the child who began to cry louder as he struggled against his grip and begin to run towards the gate. After reluctantly pushing and running past people that he could have helped, he finally made his way towards the entrance of the cruiser where his wife was waiting for him by the entrance.

"We need to hurry!" He took his wife by the hand and they ran into the closest pair of seats they can get as the Cruiser's intercom crackled to life.

This is your Captain speaking, all passengers please take your seat as we are about to take off. I repeat, all passengers please take your seat as we are about to take off. The Captain repeated over the intercom as many struggled to find their seat. Vladmyr looked through the window and watched as the fighting continued while his wife comforted the child sitting next to her.

He gritted his teeth trying hard not to breakdown and cry from the guilt as he watched many other civilians that were left behind continue to cry out asking for the Captain and their pilots to stop for them, behind them the soldiers continued to fight their way as they were gunned down by the enemy soldiers as they went farther and farther until the fighting was no longer visible from orbit.

Vladmyr let out a sigh of guilt as he slumped against his seat as his wife stroked the head of the child who had cried himself to sleep.

"So it's over," Vladmyr said as he turned to his wife.

"It's alright, I'm sure life on Mars would be a lot more peaceful than on Earth." She comforted him, around them many passengers began to break down in tears from the relief of no longer being in an active war zone or grief from losing any loved ones in the fighting or guilt from leaving behind any loved ones in their attempt to escape.

"I know," Vladmyr said in a low voice.

"Are you sure you that we should adopt him?" His wife asked him as they stepped out of the cruiser and into the arrivals in the Olympus Spaceport located on Mars. They were discussing the idea of adopting the child, even though they know nothing about him or his dead parents.

"It's the least I could do after being forced to leave behind his mother." He explained to her as he grabbed their bags while the child walked next to them while holding her hand. He looked around and watched many other refugees like them who carried small bags a clear sign that they have barely had the time to grab any items.

As for Vladmyr, he had hoped to use this as a chance to create a new identity for their new life. Months before the evacuation on Earth, the Martian Government had declared to take in any Earth Refugees and convert them into Martian Citizens. His attention and several other refugees that were present were later interrupted by what was playing on the large screen that showed live news coverage of the war on Earth.

The Skyline Belt, a Series of Space Stations designed as the initial defence of Earth should an off-world invasion were to occur, was deactivated and slowly began to descend upon the Earth similar to that of an artificial meteor. Vladmyr watched in horror as they began to burn up and collide with the earth destroying many Cities and landmarks igniting them and killing potentially millions in the process.

"So this is how it ends," Vladmyr said in a grim tone, around him many of his fellow refugees broke down in tears as they watched in horror until the video feed finally ended.

And so the Light of Earth has finally faded, obliterated in the fires of war. Vladmyr thought to himself as he gripped his wife's hand as they silently made their way into the Departure Area as were many other workers of the Immigration who were ready to begin their process as many around them continued to weep and cry over the destruction of the Earth but for him and his wife it was a new beginning for them.
