March 10: Bucky's Birthday

I paced the room as I waited for Sam to bring Bucky back home. Steve and I had put together a small surprise party for Bucky and Sam got him out of the house while we decorated. They were supposed to be back a half hour ago and I was getting worried.

As if on cue, my phone vibrated in the back pocket of my jeans. I pulled it out and clicked on the notification.

Bitch Who Thinks He's a Bird: We're walking up to the front door. Be ready.

"They're here!" I whisper yelled.

I quickly flicked off the lights and hid behind the couch. Steve crouched down beside me, Sarah ducked behind the recliner, and Cass and AJ snuck into the closet.

Within seconds, the front door was opening and Sam and Bucky were walking into the house.

"Why are the lights off?" Bucky asked.

"Surprise!" We all shouted, jumping out of our hiding places as he flicked on the lights. "Happy birthday!"

"What's this?" He grinned widely as I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his torso.

"Happy birthday, handsome." I smiled, pecking him on the lips and hugging him tightly.

Bucky greeted everyone and soon it was time for cake and presents. Steve got him a new bike helmet, Sarah gave him a new pair of leather gloves, AJ and Cass made him birthday cards, and Sam got him a copy of The Hobbit.

When it came time for my present, my nerves were all over the place. I couldn't stand still and I kept finding myself fidgeting with my fingers and biting the inside of my cheek. I don't know what I was nervous about. We had been trying for a while, but nothing worked. That is, until now.

I flashed him a warm smile and handed him the gift wrapped box. He tore off the paper and cut open the box, reaching inside to find yet another box. He cut open the smaller box and found yet another slightly smaller box, then again, and again. Until the final box was revealed, a long rectangular box, that would seem to hold a bracelet. He untied the blue bow that was tied around it, and slid off the top.

White tissue paper covered the object so that he couldn't see what it was upon first glance. He removed the paper and picked up the small stick. His eyebrows furrowed and he dropped the box onto the floor as he flipped the stick over. He looked up with me with bright eyes and a smile that spread from ear to ear.

"Really?" He asked in a soft voice, his eyes tearing up ever so slightly.

I smiled and nodded, a tear of my own slowly slipping down my cheek. He stood up and ran over to me, wrapping his arms around my body and picking me up off the floor. He spun us around as he pressed his face into the crook of my neck and let out a small laugh.

"I'm gonna be a dad!" He mumbled into my neck. "I'm gonna be a dad."

I sniffed and he placed me back on my feet. Our lips met in a loving kiss and Sam whooped in the distance. We broke away and Steve walked over.

"Congrats, guys." He smiled and pulled us both into a hug.

Sam came over after Steve, grinning like a mad man. "Y/n, I'm happy for you. Bucky, this is the first time I've seen you cry. I never realized you had emotions."

Sarah jabbed him in the side with her elbow and pulled me into a tight hug. "If you ever need anything, ever, call me. I'll help you with anything you need."

"Thank you." I smiled and wiped my face off.

...

I was laying in bed when Bucky walked in from the bathroom. He leaped onto the bed beside me and kissed me deeply. His hand slid down to rest on my stomach and my heart fluttered in my chest.

He pulled away with a bright smile. "I love you."

"I love you, too." I replied, matching his smile and pecking him on the lips one more time.

He leaned down and lifted up his shirt that I was wearing. He pressed his lips to the bare skin by just above my belly button and I laughed.

"And I love you too." He mumbled in a baby voice.

He laid back down and drapped an arm over my waist, pulling me against his body and kissing the back of my neck.

"Goodnight, Doll." He murmured.

"Goodnight, Buck." With that, I drifted asleep, just as Bucky brushed his thumb across my stomach and mumbled a soft 'Goodnight, baby.'
