We have now been driving for about thirty minuets and I can tell Landon is in his head. Both of his hands gripping the steering wheel to the point his knuckles are turning red. His demeanor making my anxiety about this conversation worse and worse. I take a few deep breaths trying to relax when we pull into a parking lot.
I look straight ahead and see the ocean with a beautiful orange sun sinking into the blue water. Landon opens my door grabbing my hand to help me out.
"This is so beautiful Landon." I say with a smile on my face feeling the anxiety start to subside.
"You haven't seen the best part yet." He smiles and heads down some dark, wooden stairs that lead to the sandy beach. We walk along the ocean before coming to a stop at a small private beach almost completely enclosed by a tall cliff.
We sit down facing the ocean and watch the sun sink further in complete silence until I almost can't take it anymore. Just when I am about to speak he beats me to it.
"So...when I was 6 I was starting to get in trouble a lot..." He pauses and takes a deep breath. He now has my full attention.
"My dad use hit me and he drank a lot after my mom left him when I was 3 and Kaitlin was 2. He never once laid a hand on Kaitlin and he never would because she is his little girl but I was his personal punching bag because...well I don't know why." He breaks eye contact and looks out into the ocean and I do the same feeling as if I was about to cry for him.
"My mom took me when I was 6 to live with her about an hour away from my dad and I started acting out more because I wasn't very fond of her new husband...It was just a lot of temper tantrums and hitting and crying. when I turned 8 it turned into running away for days but the cops would always find me or I would go back home. And that is when my mom sent me to boarding school in Utah." This explains why I never saw him before and why Kaitlin never talked about him. He starts to continue.
"I ran away from school when I was 12 and that's when I first got arrested." When he says this my breath catches in my throat. I don't say anything as I lean into his chest and he wraps his arm around me. I can feel his body relax as I rub my hand over his arm in reassurance that I am fully listening to him.
"I was only there for about a month but they sent me back to my mom and I continued to act out and it just got worse. I went to my dads just for a summer and ran away from his place when I was 15. I was sure that if he ever hit me at that age I would hit him back and I don't know that I would be able to stop...so I left. Met up with a old friend who was hanging out with a group named "The Crew". I was living with him for about a month before I got caught robbing a liquor store and got arrested again. I spent two years in Juvie and when I got out I did the same thing at a different store. The second time I didn't get out until I was almost 18. By then I got my GED in Juvie and I decided to go to UCLA." I take a minuet to register all of this information.
So what Levi said was true but all he did was rob a liquor store. Xavier is in Jail for attempted murder so I really don't see why Levi told me to stay away.
"The reason Kaitlin is so upset is because I am still on probation. The day Jacob came looking for me was because I had a meeting with my probation officer. At every meeting they take a drug test and I'm stupid and smoked a little weed at the party before you showed up..." I look at him once again to find he has been looking at me for my reaction and he can see concern written all over my face.
"They will send me away to Jail this time. I don't know how long I'll be gone but since I am 19 they cant send me Juvie. That's why they are looking for me and I haven't been caught because I have been hiding out with you every night...I just wanted to tell you before someone else told you and I was already gone before I could explain."
My mind is spinning and I lean into him hugging him tighter never wanting to leave. "I'm sorry you have been through so much Landon." A small single tear runs as memories of Levi getting arrested ran through my head.
"Hey." He grabs my chin making me look at him and he wipes my tear away with his thumb. "I'm not gone yet and we at least have tonight right? Please just enjoy it with me?" I lean into his hand before standing offering my hand to help him up.
I lead him to the water. I give him a devilish smirk before splashing him with the freezing cold water and start to run down the beach. I turn around to see him hot on my heels. I scream as he grabs me, picks me up, and starts spinning me around.
He looses his footing and be both fall to the sand laughing uncontrollably. Every time I look at him he takes my breath away. I kiss him and instantly he kisses me back before pulling away.
"I really don't want to go back to my dorm and hear Lux and shaggy all night." I say with annoyance at how thin my walls are.
"You can stay at my dorm tonight. Shaggy will be at your dorm and Jacob is at his girl Adriana's tonight. it will just be us and we can watch a movie." I smile at the idea and we start the walk to his car before headed back to campus.
I guess I must have fallen asleep because I wake up in Landon's arms hearing a door shut and he sets my on an extremely warm bed. I look at him with tired eyes and an adoring smile.
"Hey sleepy head." He laughs tiredly.
"You didn't have to carry me Landon you could have woken me up" I say with a yawn
"It was no problem. Do you want something to drink while I'm up before we watch a movie?" I nod my head excitedly realizing how dry my mouth was.
"Can I have Coffee please?" I ask with hope in my eyes.
"Coming right up princess." He says laughing before heading to the kitchen. I take a moment to admire his room. He has pictures of motorcycles all over the walls with the occasional playboy bunny posters. Typical guy.
Shortly he returns with my coffee and he pops in a random movie. I take off my clothes all except my thong and begin to get comfortable. I feel eyes on me to see Landon looking at me with hungry eyes.
"You're such a tease." He says before doing the same as me and getting comfortable. When the movie ends his head is on my chest and he is fast asleep. I rake my hands through his soft dirty blonde hair and eventually fall asleep to his soft snores and the warmth of his body on mine. It feels so nice to fall asleep next to somebody for the first time in a long while.
