'Do you ever feel, Addison, like this is meant to fall apart?' Derek shouted across the living room when they returned home that evening, 'Like the odds are stacked against us and the universe wants to split us? Because we've just been told our only chance at a biological child is Mark fricking Sloan's baby and to be honest, I'm not feeling too great right now.'
'I know, Derek. But we... we need to think about our options. I mean, if you still want a family.'
'Of course I want a family. But Addison. Seriously.'
'But?'
'But? But we can't have a family. Unless we adopt. And I've got nothing against adoption, adoption's great, but I want our baby, Addison. And we're faced with the choice of a baby that's yours biologically but might end up being Sloan Jr., or adopting.'
'So, what do you want to do?'
'We have to keep it, don't we.' It wasn't a question.
'Only if you want to.'
'Do you want to?'
'Derek, of course I want it, it's my baby in my womb in my body.'
'So?'
'So we're having a baby.' Addison's face softened, and she saw Derek break into a gentle, although slightly forlorn, smile.
'Yeah,' he said, quietly, 'We're having a baby!'
