Momo was helpless. Her muscular yet frail body had reached the school's gate no thanks to the stampede. She was supposed to be by Jeongyeon's side, looking for Tzuyu. Momo knew where Tzuyu was seated, and the search would be a lot quicker if Momo was there.
The other students from this school and from her own had gone off somewhere into the city. The JYP University wasn't exactly situated anywhere near here, they had to take the school buses just to compete with their archrival school as an annual tradition.
"What in the world's going on, anyway?" She whispered to no one in particular.
"That's what I'm planning to ask you, actually." Momo jumped from her spot when an unfamiliar voice suddenly spoke behind her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
A fair-skinned lady shorter than her, with black, straight, and shiny hair flowing up until the girl's back, and wearing Momo's school's color, looked apologetically at her. Now that she was facing her, she recognizes the girl. She was the university pastor's daughter, Dahyun Kim, a first-year student. Famous at JYPU for being in the school's band, and for being an expert on playing most of the instruments. Her mild manner, plus her innocent face made even the seniors admire her from the walls of their own rooms whenever she passes by.
"I-I uh... My name's ugh..." Momo hated herself for stuttering. She wasn't used to talking to anyone besides her friends. And it didn't help that Dahyun is so pretty.
"You're Momo Hirai, a third-year student." The girl beamed at her.
Momo blushed, "H-How did you...?"
"I saw you dance at the school festival." Dahyun notices that Momo became more embarrassed, she understands that feeling too well so she changed the subject, "So... any guess as to what happened?"
"Shit," Momo remembers she has to get back inside, and then she remembers that she's with literally, the school Pastor's daughter. "I-I'm sorry for cursing. I... d-do you want to come with me?"
The question seems more like a romantic gesture in a different context, but what Momo intended was far from romantic. She just hopes that the girl wouldn't be weirded by her from asking such a straightforward question even though they've just met, given the situation.
"The others ran away from there, are we sure we want to go in?" There's hesitation in the girl's voice, which is understandable. If Momo was still her old self, a loner, she wouldn't even attend the lame sports competition, but she has her friends now, and all of them are still inside. She has to know they're safe.
But Momo's also a coward. She couldn't even defend herself against those who bullied her. She's good at dancing, but that's it. She isn't a fighter, in this life, nor in the next. At last, she made her decision, "You're right. It's best to stay away from trouble."
Momo took out her phone and dialed Jeongyeon's number. It rang repeatedly but no one answered, "Shit, shit, shit!" She stops herself. Being in the presence of the other girl, Momo became self-conscious of her words, "I'm sorry. I'm just really worried about my friend and her sister."
Dahyun chuckles to lighten up the mood, "I guess you've heard about me as well, 'The Daughter of the Pastor.' It's okay, you don't have to be careful around me. I can assure you that my father's calling has got nothing to do with me."
Momo might have developed a small admiration for the girl right there and then. She seems to unconsciously loosen up around the frosh girl too, which is unexpected for someone as socially awkward as her.
"So... ugh... where's Pastor Kim?" The Pastor was known to be kind to everyone, but a little stricter to his own daughter and son. He rarely lets Dahyun out of his sight at the university or lets her join any school extraneous activities.
