When I woke up the book was at my feet. I find myself lying on the floor shivering. I get up and close my window. I take the book and set it in a box under my bed. I look at the time.
4:58
"You have got to be kidding me!" I whisper. I'm exhausted but I don't look it. I try to stay up until 6:00, when I would get up for school, but it seems impossible! I decided to spend the time figuring out what had happened. The first thing I investigated was that book. I looked around but it must have been moved or worse ruined during that huge thing! I crawled all around the floor looking for the leather covered book. Finally after thinking of giving up I found it under my bed. I picked it up immediately and opened it. Instead of only one page in English, all of the pages were in English. I read until my eyes and head hurt. By that time it was 5:46. Only about 14 or 15 more minutes until I'm the new girl. I thought and thought while the minutes passed. Then my grandma got up.
"I wish I didn't have to go to school!" I mumbled lying in the jumble of blankets and pillows that was once my bed. My grandma was about to turn my doorknob when she walked towards the stairs and right down the staircase, too. I went down too after about 10 minutes.
"Grandma? Don't I have school today?" I asked at the bottom of the stairs.
"Oh not anymore dear. Classes were postponed until tomorrow, or was it next week? I didn't understand the message fully I suppose." she picked up the news paper and smiled at me. "Why? Were you excited?"
"No. I wasn't." I walked over to the couch and plopped down. I guess I fell asleep because my grandma was gone when I got up for breakfast. The table was clear besides a yellow note. I picked up the note and sat down. The note read:
Dear, Kendall
I suppose you were tired? You fell right to sleep on the couch! By the time you read this you shall be starving! Are you? If not you can ignore this. If you are go in the oven and take out the warm pancakes. I also left some bacon, too! The orange juice and apple juice is in the fridge fresh from the farmer's market! Enjoy, dear!Love, Grandma xoxo
I was starving so I did what the note said. Everything was delicious! But, where did grandma go?
