"World War II was a very violent war......" said Mr. Adams ,my history teacher. It seemed to me that as many times as they taught us about events in history the less I could find the reason to focus.
I kept thinking back to earlier this morning in the parking lot. Rumors about the new kid had started as soon as he entered the school. Paige Hilly had overheard him talking to the secretary.
That's another thing about small towns.....there is no such thing as privacy. The only problem is figuring out what pieces of the gossip is true.
His words had been echoing inside my head like a broken record all morning. Which is very absurd because I am not easily enraptured by guys who act all mysterious. But for some reason Lucas was stuck in my head.
Even his name sounded perfect ,and his lips look so soft and kissable. I wonder what they taste like?....Whoa Bella stop right there you are not going to start obsessing over somebody you just saw not even five hours ago.
"Ms. Wright, what year was Pearl Harbor?" days my teacher bringing me out of my thoughts.
"Ummmm...1938???"
"No Bella, if you were paying attention you would have gotten that question correct."
"Sorry sir it won't happen again" I said while blushing.
"It better not Ms. Wright, we wouldn't want a detention or worse yet an F on our next test now would we?"
At this the bell rang and I started to gather my things up. I headed out if the door and headed towards my locker. I put the combination into the lock and swung the door open. I started digging for my biology book.
I know that this task may sound easy but I was far from an organized person. It was a miracle in itself that the door to my locker shut let alone me being able to find things easily.
I had just about gotten to the bottom of my locker and was about to give up when I heard a deep voice behind me.
"I think you forgot to check under the ten notebooks in the corner."
I twirled around so fast I hit my hand off my locker door so hard tears instantly pricked my eyes. I cursing under my breath while I started to shake my hand as if that in itself would make it feel better.
"You have got to stop doing that!" I whisper yelled.
"Stop doing what? Talking to you?" he asked with a smirk in his face as I continued shaking my hand.
"No! I mean yes....no I meant...." it seemed as if Lucas had the power to turn my brain into mush. It was very frustrating.
"Do you always stutter like this or am I just special?" Lucas said still wearing that stupid smirk. I was starting to feel the uncontrollable urge to smack it right off his face.
"What I meant to say is that why do you insist on scaring me every time before I talk to you. First you almost hit my car and now you sneak up behind me and make me hurt my hand."
"Well Bella I am very sorry if I have been a burden on you but I have to say you have been a big burden to me also. You see, I was having a perfectly fine day until I had to save my car from hitting yours."
He said this with a straight face. There wasn't even a hint of a smile ,and he looked absolutely serious as if he believed that it was all my fault that he decided to pull in front of me.
"Wow I am so sorry." I say in a mocking tone. "I suppose if I'm such a burden I will just leave you to it."
With this I turned around and slammed my locker shut and turned around and heard the satisfying sound of my long straight hair hitting him in the face.
"Wait!! I was just messing with you. I didn't mean it like that." he said while trying to catch up with me.
"Well, I'm waiting." I said with a exasperated voice.
"For what?" he asked with a puzzled look on his face.
"I'm waiting for an apology! You could have seriously injured me this morning with your stupidity or you couldn't have ruined my car. So I am waiting for you to apologize."
As I was saying this Lucas's face had tightened up a little bit and it looked as if he were in pain.
"Yeah.....about that....I actually came over here to apologize for that. I wasn't paying attention and I just cut into the parking space before looking at my surroundings I am really sorry."
While he said this he rubbed the back of his neck and his face was slowly turning red.
"Well next time pay attention. You were lucky this time." I replied.
"Well anyway I plan on making it up to you." His signature smirk back in place.
"What do you mean?" I asked dubiously.
"See ya around Bella." he winked at me and then left me standing there looking like a fish flopping around on a deck.
About ten minutes after he had left me standing there looking confused I went towards the cafeteria and just couldn't help myself any longer. I smiled like a lunatic the rest of the way to the cafeteria. Wondering what was in store for me in the future. It was just fifth period and things were already starting to change ,and I also had this feeling that it wasn't going to go back to the way it was anytime soon.
