When Jughead's dad gets put in prison for the coverup of Jason Blossom's murder partway through his Senior Year, he is left alone with his baby sister, Jellybean, who is nearing two years of age. The little girl absolutely adored her big brother, maybe even more than she did her own parents, though the stress of taking care of his baby sister alone was getting to Jughead, and he was really struggling at first, as previously he'd had help from Mr. Andrews when he was living there with him.
One night when Jellybean can't stop crying and just wont settle, he calls Betty as a last cry for help, and as if she's been taking care of children her whole life she manages to calm Jellybean down pretty quickly. From then on it's a regular occurrence for Betty to come over and help him with his sister, even staying a few nights in a row sometimes to help him out.
