"So," Tommy said. He was laying on the top bunk of their bed, his arms beneath his head as he stared at the wooden ceiling above him.
"So," Tubbo repeated from the lower bunk. The two fell into silence for a few moments. Techno had left them to rest, but though they were both tired, neither of them could fall asleep.
Tommy's mind was racing. He turned onto his stomach and leaned over the edge of the bunk, hanging down to look at Tubbo. The brunet had been laying in a similar position and blinked in surprise when his friend appeared.
"Are we really just going to let him find the treasure?" Tommy asked anxiously, "Are we just going to give up this easily?"
"It was Wilbur's dream," Tubbo added in thought, "He gave up everything for it. But, I mean, we do owe Techno for saving our lives. We wouldn't be alive here if not for him, you know?"
"Aye, that's true, I guess," the blonde hummed.
"I can understand Techno's reasoning. This treasure was his dream, too, and he deserves it just as much as Will did," Tubbo went on, "But, it feels wrong to just give it up, don't it? It's like we're letting Will down."
"..."
"..."
"What if we steal it back once the ship docks?"
"I knew you'd say some shit like that," Tubbo sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, "I knew it as soon as you gave me that face."
"Hey, Tubs, I'm serious, okay? Like I want that fucking ma—"
"Let me finish!" Tubbo exclaimed, looking his best friend in the eyes, "I was going to say that, for once, I'm going to have to agree with you. We need that map back. I feel bad for Techno, but something doesn't sit well inside me knowing that we're giving up the treasure."
"Oh. Wow. That's a first." An excited grin spread across Tommy's face as he began considering options of how to take back the map. "Should we do it green-bastard-style?"
"You mean commit arson?"
"Fuck yeah."
"Mm, it didn't really work the first time, though," Tubbo noted hesitantly.
Tommy sighed in response. "Yeah, but that was on Dream's boat in the middle of the ocean. This time it'll be a dock on an island. We can light the fire, grab the map, and then get the fuck out of there within minutes." He ticked off each step of the simple plan on a finger of his hand.
"I suppose..." Tubbo muttered, dropping Tommy's gaze.
"Come on, Tubbo. It'll work, I swear."
"Okay," he finally sighed. Tommy smiled at his best friend and then moved to lie down on his bunk again. He yawned and whispered a goodnight to Tubbo. Down below, the brunet shook his head in complete disbelief.
"I can't believe I'm agreeing with you."
Tommy snickered as he closed his eyes.
If not for their plan to steal the treasure map, the two boys could have gotten along quite well with Techno. In fact, they still got along despite their planning behind the man's back. The captain of the Blood's Call treated them kindly, even giving them a few pointers about sailing.
"What do you two plan to do after meeting with your other crewmate?" Techno asked curiously at one point during the conversation.
Tommy glanced towards Tubbo and shrugged. "I'm not sure. Maybe we could buy another ship. Or not. Don't know if I want to keep being a pirate."
"Well, if you don't, it shouldn't be too difficult to settle down on one of the islands," the pink-haired male responded, "Actually, It might be better if you settle down. Who knows if the Green Bandit will come looking for you."
