Fitz

Sophie ran into the room nearly five seconds after he called her, her Imparter lying face-up on the ground.

Then he saw Oralie reach over and turn it off.

He almost asked her why Oralie was at Havenfield but there wasn't any time. Sophie was already sitting on the cot where he had been a few minutes before.

She started to reach for Keefe's temple and he did the same, but she paused and reached out one hand to his, before saying, "I should do this alone. I'll squeeze your hand if I need you to send mental energy to me."

The words hurt, but he agreed. If anyone could heal Keefe, it was Sophie.

So when she reached for Keefe's temple, he gripped her other hand and waited.

Sophie

She closed her eyes and stretched out her consciousness until she reached Keefe's mind.

She saw what Fitz had meant; Keefe definitely was broken. And it was the worst break she had seen.

She remembered what Oralie had said about Empaths shattering more easily, but she had never thought it would be this bad.

Then she realized that she had no idea how to fix him. Normally she would inflict love onto the people that she healed, but who did Keefe love?

She thought of Lord Cassius and his secret love for his son and she tried to use him in case Keefe secretly loved his dad too, but all she could find was pure, white hate.

Then she tried his mom, knowing that he still loved her, and it helped a little bit, but not enough.

She squeezed Fitz's hand and felt power built up inside her.

She tried Alden and Della, and then Fitz, Dex, Biana, Linh, and even Tam but nothing worked.

Keefe was broken and she couldn't fix him.
