Technically, this chapter could be considered chapter 4, but in the story, it's chapter 5.

ALSO, per the poll I posted, on killing Dixon, leaving Dixon behind, or Dixon not being left behind/killed, what happens to Dixon will occur here.

Yes, I will be making this version of Forest different from game-Forest, to add to the story.

This, also, is where paths branch out in the story. There will be three paths; one, Dixon dies/gets infected; two, Dixon survives but gets left behind; three, Dixon lives and doesn't get left behind.

The campfire flickered in the dark, sparks and embers hopping out of the circle of stones to land a few inches from Foxi's feet.  It had been a month since the infection started, three and a half weeks since they left the Walgreens and had to bury Riley the genet, and they could feel hope slip away from them like wAtER(i hate myself lol).

"You know you can sleep, right Foxi? I'm taking tonight's watch." A voice snatched them from their trance, making their head snap up. Dixon looked at them from where he sat, nearly invisible against the dark background.

"Yeah, I know," Foxi replied, rubbing their face. The fire DID burn their eyes, but they didn't mind. Or care.

"Look Foxi," Dixon murmured, getting up and then sitting down next to them. "You have to sleep a bit more decently. I don't want you to fall asleep when we need to go quickly." He said, looking at them, the fire reflecting in his amber orbs(KILL ME I HATED DOING THAT AHIAJCVH).

FoxiFangle looked at him with a twist of confusion and slight disgust. "Why- why was it ORBS?-" Dixon screwed his face up in confusion. Foxi waved their hands quickly. "No, like, it actually said 'orbs'."

"Ehhh yeah you need to get more sleep," Dixon said, wincing. Foxi looked at him in slight distraught and slight annoyance then sighed.

"Fine, just dump a bucket of water on me or toss me in the fire if you need me." They grumbled, shoving him off the bench. They were a heavy sleeper, evident of the time their apartment caught fire and Foxi nearly went down with it.

"OI!-" Dixon yelped, a hair away from his fur getting caught on fire. "Not everyone has perfect reflexes." Foxi looked at him with an eyebrow raised. Clearly he was forgetting how Foxi got stabbed that one time but eh.

"Sorry, didn't mean to nearly set you on fire." They apologized, looking away. It seemed so... awkward now. What happened?

"It's fine, I guess," Dixon mumbled, standing up and dusting himself off. "Well, I'm going to go check the gate." He grabbed the fire axe that was leaning against a wall and left the clearing, ducking behind a corner.

Foxi sighed, looking up at the dark sky. A few stars peeked through the tall trees, but most were covered by clouds. Picking themself up, they put the fire out before settling back down. Dixon mainly took to the tent that was set up a few feet back, but FoxiFangle slept on the bench. It had rained once, so they had bedded down in the tent too that night.

Sleep pressed down onto their eyes, heavy like a car. Letting out a deep sigh, they fell into an uneasy deep sleep.

"I... I don't think this is a good idea.." A male voice whispered, looking back.

"Well, it's either you do this mission or  you'll end up like your friend." His 'acquaintance' hissed, thrusting a bottle with a glowing green liquid inside into his hands. Her eyes were sharp, teeth bared.
