ADRIAN'S POV

She can never forget you, Adrian.

I can't get her words out of my mind no matter how much I tried. Her words were a relief from the fear I was feeling. God knows how much I missed that little soul. But I knew she was better off with Emma and I never wanted to take her away from Emma.

I'm scared to meet her. Face her and look into those little angelic eyes only to see no recollection of mine. No. I don't think I'm strong enough to handle this.

She can never forget you, Adrian.

I heard her voice in my mind and closed my eyes. I rubbed my face with my palm and slowly gathered up my courage to meet her. I entered the room and the first one to notice me was Emma. She nodded at me with a little smile of encouragement. And I would be lying if I said it didn't help.

Lily might have noticed Emma looking in a different direction so she turned her face until her innocent grey eyes met mine. My heart dropped and felt every passing microsecond as hours. I could hear my pulse in my ears as I kept looking at Lily.

Her eyes widened and I felt my heart beating so loud that I'm not so sure that they cannot hear it. Her lack of reaction made me second-guess my decision.

This was a bad idea. I shouldn't have come. What if I distress her more and something happens? Shit, I hadn't thought this through.

I took a step back and other to leave the damn room and as I was about to turn, I heard, "Ree, You leaving without saying hello?" the shock was evident in her voice but there was something else. Happiness...? My heart fluttered at her voice and when my eyes found hers, I saw her beaming face and I knew this was the best decision I'd made so far.

My lips stretched in a wide smile.

"My little Lily." I smiled and she chuckled hearing the name I used to call her.

She was the soul of my life, and slowly became my reason to breathe.

"I'm not little anymore," she whined making me chuckle at her response. I walked towards her and engulfed her tiny frame into my arms. Fuck. I didn't even realize how much I'd missed her till now.

My eyes met Emma's and I saw she was smiling ear to ear while her eyes looked glassy. I broke the hug and caressed Lily's hair.

"How is my little Lily doing?" I asked knowing how much calling her little would annoy her.

"Stop calling me little, pretty boy!" my eyes widened at his words and I heard a light chuckle coming from Emma.

I smirked and said, "Pretty boy, huh? I think we can conclude I'm past the stage where you could call me a boy. Besides you really are tiny that gives me full right to call you little."

"I'm not tiny."

"You're a munchkin,"

"I'm not," She pouted and god did she look adorable.

"A little pancake?"

"No, and stop annoying me,"

"Nuh-uh. That's not gonna happen for a while." I said sitting at the edge of the bed.

"You'll stay?" hope flaring in her eyes and my heart clenched seeing her reaction. I never thought my absence was affecting her.

"Yes, Lily. I'm not going anywhere." I said and my eyes crossed to the person sitting on the other side of the bed as I continued, "Not this time." Her smile faltered but it was the slightest movement and if I weren't looking at her already I might've missed it.

I'm not gonna go this time Emma and it's a promise. Clearly, Emily read the promise on my face because the color from her face was draining. She looked mortified and if I say I wasn't enjoying her state I would be lying.

She already forced me to stay away from this little girl and now that I know she really wants me on her side I'll burn everything if I'm kept apart.

"So... what did I miss?" my attention came back to Lily after hearing her words. My brows furrowed while Lily was grinning silly and looking at both of us.

"What do you mean?"

"You guys are back together?"

"No, we're no-"

"We're working on some things now." I cut Emma before she could ruin this for me.

"I thought you left me, Ree... when you guys broke up."

My heart hurt by listening to her and what she had to go through because of us. "I never left you Lily and I'm not leaving now," I said in a low voice showing her that I meant every word of it.
