chapter 8

King Jarith

"Rose let me see the new elf Astrid's schedule. " Since I left her in the study today I can't get her out of my mind . I need to try to test her power to know if it was her moving my magic. She's going to be cleaning in the billiard room after lunch I'll just have to meet her in there.

Astrid: the billiard room is the biggest room I have been in since I came to the palace it's going to take some time to cover all this space .  I have never played pool before I wonder how it is played there are so many balls and they are so heavy. I pick them up one by one dusting them clean with a rag . There is a bar a sitting area this room is made for gatherings  it's lovely so many shades of gold and blue throughout it. A door opening behind me catches my attention looking back at it I see king Jarith walk through the door. Oh know I hope he didn't come in here to play pool what if I'm in his way I tilt my head down slightly and drop my eyes to the floor just as I saw Ember do . Hopefully the king will leave when he notices I am cleaning . As soon as he does I'll clean as fast as I can so he can use the room.  He's still walking into the room with a book in hand and sits in the seating area across from where I am standing . I can see from the corn of my eye the book opens he must be reading it. What do I do just stand here frozen the whole time leave then come back when he's done or contenu cleaning around him ?

King Jarith : "Astrid ..."
  " On the west wing the staff look at me and speak to me . Since you will be working on this side of the palace I think you should do the same don't you ?"

Astrid : " yes king Jarith I will for now on . Would you like me to leave so you can use the room or contenu cleaning ? "

King Jarith: " you can contenu cleaning . It won't bother me if it does I'll  leave until your finished "
Finally Astrid nods her head and gets back to her cleaning . Now's my chance I let some more of my magic out to feel the room . Being careful to not let out touch I'm constantly holding my magic in place it can be so overwhelming for other elves it has even caused other to faint from the the strength of it . Since I was little I have had to put up a wall holding in my magic but it's so powerful it still slowly seeps out bits into the near by spaces she is slowing down in her dusting. I can see it in her body movement she can feel it it's coiling around her I can see the trails of it . I'm the only elf I know of that can see magic it's like a Violet light . Most elves can feel it if it's very strong but no one can see it like I can .
She continues to clean so I lower my wall a little letting out a little more magic this should really bother her this is more then I  let out around any other elves . Her back is to me I can see the Violet light getting darker around her it's completely spurned her . Then I see it push away from her body and I feel my magic being moved by magic .
" Astrid trun around and look at me "

Astrid: "yes king Jarith is there something I can do for you ? "

King Jarith: " is my magic bothering you? Why do you keep moving it around ? "

Astrid : " honestly it's been wrapping so tightly around me I've never felt magic on me like this before so I have just been pushing it away from my body a bit . "

King Jarith: " is this all you can do with your magic what else can you do ? "

Astrid : " today is the first time I ever pushed magic away from me . I didn't even know I could do it until I did it. Since no one's magic has ever touched me before I guess I never had a reason to try until now . I can't do anything else or I never have done anything else . "

King Jarith : "come sit next to me . Give me your hand ."

Astrid : I sit of the elegant sofa next to the king . And lift my hand towards him . He takes my hand in his instantly I feel a jolt run through my body . King Jarith is looking into my he's so powerful I can feel his magic swirling around inside of him and not what I have felt before what magic is out in the room around us is not a fraction of what is inside of the king.my heart is beating so rapidly in my chest I don't know if it's his magic causing it or just him .

King Jarith: " why do I feel like you are not telling the complete truth Astrid ? "

Astrid : " okay there is one other thing that happened today . I signed the contract that stops me from talking about anything happening in the west wing but it didn't stop me .  I was able to tell my friend everything that happened in the west wing today when I was at lunch ."

King Jarith: no one should be able to break that contract no one ever had before . If she can do all this what else can she do ?
I know my magic has very little limits but my magic can be felt . Why can't I feel her magic ?
" Hmm this is a predicament with abilities like this can you be trusted ? I'm not so sure you can be . Did you stop paying your taxes to  wiggle your way into the castle ? What is your agenda girl ? Whatever it is I won't be letting it happen "
When she enters I tell her to bring Artimus to me.
