Chapter 39: A twist of fate

"Don't be scared Jojo."

KNOCK KNOCK

"Hello, can we come in?" Mani heads to the door, opening it to see the professor standing there, along with Jamie, Tyler and a very on edge Jojo. "How is the patient?" The professor says, now heading towards the bed, instantly pressing a hand to Teddy's head. "You feel hot." 

"Is there any wonder? You have surrounded me with vampires. I want to leave." Teddy says, as he begins to pull off the sticky patches from his skin. The wires fall haphazardly to the bed. 

"You need observation. You could have died." Jamie says, approaching the bed. "It's in everyone's interest if you live. If Theodore Tate dies on vampire territory, no piece of well meaning words on paper will stop a war." 

"Then why did you bring me here?" Teddy protests once again. 

"Because now we are on the same side." Tyler reminds him, stepping forwards. "I will always have your back. Both of you. "Tyler pats both Mani and Teddy on the shoulder. 

The moment of peace suddenly becomes disrupted by the door bursting open. "Dad! Tyler says with surprise as he sees his father out of breath. 

"You need to leave. All of you." He says, still a little breathless, as he takes in the array of people. 

"Mr Klein. What is the matter? I thought we had an agreement." Rowan begins. 

"You did, but him." Tyler's father points to Jojo. 

"Me?... What about me?" Jojo says, with a nervous laugh, suddenly feeling the urge to hide behind Tyler for protection. 

"There is no such a deal to be made with humans. My brotherkind know a human is present. They smell him." Mr klein takes a step closer to Jojo, his nostrils flaring on his approach. 

"Dad, stop it!" Tyler pushes his father back "You're scaring him!" 

"Professor. You must have something in here to shield him." Mani says with panic as he looks to his teacher. 

"I…I…I can't think!" Rowan says as he frantically looks upon the shelves and potions. "He needs to mask himself." The professor suddenly freezes. He looks at Tyler. "You." 

"Me?...what about me?" Tyler now feels that similar nervous disposition. He feels Jojo's hold on his sleeve tighten. 

"You've taken the pill." Rowan says as if lightbulbs were going off in head like a light show. 

"Yes, but so have you!" Tyler says with added confusion What did he mean? 

"Yours are a different dose to ours. You're full blood." Jamie adds. 

Teddy takes a step forwards. "So have I." He says boldy" I know what you want professor. Stand back whilst I give him a big bite." 

"No nonono!" Don't do that Theodore." Rowan dares to step in front of the alpha. "It's nearly out of your system. If your DNA gets into contact with his blood then he will be turned into a werewolf.  

"What is everyone saying? I don't understand." Jojo feels like he may cry at any moment. He felt like his life was literally in the hands of beasts and vampires and he felt like that alone was going to end him. 

"Don't be scared Jojo." Mani steps forwards, pulling Jojo out, just a little from his hiding place. No one is going to bite you. Isn't that right professor." 

"We just need a temporary DNA transfer. A strong one, from someone who has taken the pill in its strongest form." The professor tries to talk as calmly as he can, but time is against him. "What's the best and quickest way to transfer dna?"

"A quick fuck!"

"No Teddy!" Mani shouts. "A kiss. He means a kiss!" 

"A kiss?" Tyler swallows hard. He looks at Jojo, who is now standing by his side. 

"It's all I can think of." Rowan says and now it was all Jojo and Tyler could think of. 

They look at eachother, but with panic in their eyes, with the sudden task thrusted upon them. "I…I've never kissed a man before." Tyler blurts out. 

"I've never kissed a vampire before." Jojo says as he looks up at Tyler. It makes Tyler laugh as the tension between them softens a fraction. "Just do it. I don't want to die." 

He sees a tear roll down Jojo's left cheek. Tyler lifts up a hand, brushing the tear away with his thumb. "It makes a change for a vampire to save a life, instead of taking one." He smiles as he cups Jojo's face, eyes closing as he presses his lips against the innocent looking ones. 

Jojo's hands reach out and grab a hold of Tyler's shirt, the grip so tight, he feels like he may fall if he lets go. He lets his eyes close, feeling the softness of Tyler's lips upon his. It made him feel strange, giggy. He felt like he was floating away as if entering a deep sleep. 

Tyler feels the hold on his shirt weaken, as his lips begin to lose purchase. "Jojo!" He says as he pulls back. His arms just catching him in time before he falls to the floor. He just about manages to sweep him up in his arms. 

Both Teddy and Mani seem to straighten up at the same time. Their nostrils flaring like crazy. "It smells like a blood bath is approaching." Teddy says, automatically shielding Mani behind him. 

"Take him and go." Tyler's father says. "I will try to distract them."

"Go? Go where?" Tyler says as he looks at his father. 

"Away from here. Far away, back to human territory."  He replies. Tyler nods as the door opens for him and he heads out, not knowing where he was going or what he was doing but only knew one thing. He now had a responsibility. To keep Jojo alive.

He manages to get out of the hospital and out into the street. The sky was darkening already, not a good sign. He knew his kind were at their most adventures after dark, but he was too far from safety. 

"Well look at what we have here." Tyler freezes as he hears the voice of someone he probably didn't want to meet. Someone who would cause them harm.

"What are you? You smell of nothing." Another voice says from somewhere else in the shadows.

"Just leave us…I'm warning you!" Tyler tries to sound authoritative but with his hands full and any physical power to match lost, he knew it wasn't enough. 

"No. I'm too intrigued to go anywhere." The second voice says once again as he now takes a step into the light of a street lamp. His dark, eyes sunk into his face, and were all the more poignant against his white skin. 

"Leave us alone!" Tyler shouts once again. He feels his arms tiring at the dead weight of Jojo.

"I think I need to try some new blood in my diet. What do you think Jasiah?" The man turns his head to the other, who now came into view. His teeth already elongated through thick parted lips. 

Tyler finally feels his knees buckle as he crumbles to the floor. "I…I'm sorry Jojo." He cries as he screws his eyes closed. He was ready to accept his fate. He wanted to be human and now he was going to die just like one.
