Shehnaaz

When we got up to leave, I whispered into Deepika’s ear, “I gotta go to washroom. Wait for me outside, will you?”

After I travelled a good distance, I doubted if Deepika had indeed paid attention to what I was saying or not as she was not exactly in her perfect senses. But because I wasn’t going to be away for long, I didn’t let that thought bother me.

To my surprise, when I did spot them outside the club, I found a tall, muscular man talking rather intensely with them. It only took me seconds before I walked closer to them to realized that it was none other than my husband.

What on earth was he doing here?

“Sidharth?” I asked, surprise evident in my voice.

Upon hearing my voice, his entire body froze, He whirled around in a second to greet me with a pale face. His then widened eyes seemed to flood with relief as they landed on me.

“There are you are.” He said as his palms fell on my shoulders. Gripping them hard, he almost held onto me like he couldn’t believe I was here. “You scared me.”

“Why what are you doing here?” I asked, puzzled. Looking over at my friends, their expressions gave away that they were just as confused as I was.

A look of hesitation crossed his face. Glancing behind, he made me aware that he was not comfortable sharing anything when we were surrounded by my friends. “I came to give you a ride.”

“Thad a ride back home. How did you even know I was here?”

“That’s not important.”

“It is.” I glared, “I can’t believe you were stalking me. Do you have men following me, Sidharth?”

“I wish I had.” He grumbled, “Shehnaaz, it’s not safe for you to hang out in this place. For all we know, there could be men waiting to—"

“Attack me?" I scoffed.

He glared. "Yes."

“Well, whose fault is that?”

“Mine. Which is why I'm here to avoid it. I’m your husband, and you’re my responsibility.”

I clenched my jaw in anger, “I am my own responsibility.”

“Oh, now that you’re involved in my mess, like it or not, you are my responsibility.”

His glare only intensified with every ticking second. His eyes darted towards his sides and only then did we realize that we were making a scene in front of our friends.

Moving his eyes back to me, he spoke with a cold voice, “Why don’t we continue this at our house?”

Sighing in exhaustion, I turned to my friends and sent them an apologetic look, “Im sorry guys. I’ll meet you tomorrow.” And then, facing Deepika, I asked, “Are you sure you'll go home safe?”

“Don’t worry, I’m going to accompany her,” Karan said. I almost forgot that Deepika and Karan now lived together in the same flat.

“Right, I forgot about that. But I’m worried about you too, you’re not exactly sober. Want us to give you a ride?”

I could sense Sidharth stiffen beside me. I know that it was not an ideal situation for me to invite some company but my friend’s safety was more important to me than his opinion, and he ought to respect that.

“Don’t worry about it, Sana,” Said Deep, “We'll all ride together. I was keeping track of my drinks the entire while so you can trust me to bring them home safely. You ride safe too, yeah?”
