You all read the title! We have a BABY DEER IN OUR HOME!!! We're gonna keep her overnight since all the rehabs are full and I'll make sure to get pictures and update you guys everyday she stays with us. I'll also get some short videos but I probably won't show those until after she's gone since you can hear my brother and mom so I'll need to edit out the sounds out.

So my mom works with our local humane society and this apparently came in as an emergency call. These people had found a fawn who the girl (I'm assuming their daughter or something, I didn't ask) named Paige. We are considering other names but for now that's her name.

When my mom showed up, she could tell the fawn had been without mom for at least three days because the tips of the ears were beginning to curl back which is a sign of dehydration in deer. My mom did admit to caring for a fawn before but that fawn's ears were completely curled back when she got it and sadly she couldn't save it. There is a chance Paige won't make it long either but since her situation isn't as grim, we has a bit more hope for her.

My mom got in touch with a retired game warden she knew to at least see if he could give her a number (for something, I done forgot what she said) or tell her of any rehabs that would take a fawn but he started telling her how a doe will leave her baby for hours at a time and only feed them five times a day. Now that's fine if it weren't for the fact that she told him about the ears and that she knew what she was talking about. He still said to leave her despite my mom telling him she had no mother and that leaving Paige there would be a death sentence for her. Again, she knew this game warden and it was a shock to her when he behaved like this though he is on the older side so she said it might just be because he's old and cranky. I'm not sure if she said it as a joke or genuinely thought it. I only know what she told me so I don't know how bad the conversation got but he eventually gave her a number.

She bought some goat milk since she couldn't find any doe milk and all of us have fed her at least once so far. My mom also let us pick her up, pet her, and even let her lay with my dad on his chair. Because of this, me and my brother have our doubts about releasing her into the wild. Bringing her home, she would follow us around and our dogs and cats are doing great with her. Don't worry, we keep an eye on her while she's loose and we're gonna put her in a crate tonight. The only issue was that she kept slipping on our hard floor. You know that scene in Bambi when he's trying to walk on ice and he keeps slipping and doing the deer version of splits? Yeah, that's what she did. Thankfully she's gotten the hang of it.

Anyways, that's about everything you need to know. Sorry I'm posting this so late. I waited til after supper since that's when my mom would have said everything I needed to know for this. Anyways, I need to get to bed and I'll show you the pictures of her in the morning. That and they don't wanna load in so yeah. Also, as I'm writing this a rehab just called. I'm listening to the conversation and apparently Paige was following people around, my mom told the people who called to put her in the woods since mom will leave for long periods of time, Paige showed back up later and my mom agreed to check her out. Anyways, that's all for now. Sorry I couldn't at least show you guys one picture of her but I have to get to bed. Night guys!
