If you haven't read any other of my blog chapters, I couldn't care less, but this is the one that I need you to read.

I could not let the day go by and not post on this horrible topic.

For those of you who do not know or live in the US, there was a mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas yesterday. As of today (May 25th, 2022), 21 people are confirmed dead- 19 children and 2 adults.

19 parents sent their child to school yesterday and never got them back. All 600 children in the school district were escorted to their buses by police.

I am so sad that the world has come to this. For the victims of this tragedy, my heart goes out to you. The grieving families are in my prayers.

Even worse, this is not a rarity. There have been hundreds of these shootings across the nation, some less deadly, but all as painful.

This has to stop. A country that prides itself on democracy and the voice of the people has ignored the cries of wounded children. Nobody deserves to be murdered, nevertheless innocent youth at a place where they are sent to learn and to feel safe.

Many politicians care too much about their public ranking and their money to act. I will not express my political opinions on gun control, but I will say that I do not condone of the lives of children being heartlessly stolen.

In my school growing up, I remember doing "lockdown drills" where we would hide and grab books to throw at the "bad guys" if they came into the room.

In kindergarten, I remember clearly being read a book. It called the "bad guys" wolves who wanted to harm the sheep, referring to us, the children. Our Shepard, it stated, was our teacher.

But it should not be that way. Children should not prepare for the day that someone comes into their school to shoot them. Teachers should not be forced to put their own lives aside to be protectors.

Their job is to teach and to guide, and they did not sign up to be a part of a mass shooting. "Will you take a bullet for a child?" is not part of their application. So many teachers care deeply for their students, and, in truth, I tell you that they are hero's who go above and beyond their job description. God bless you teachers.

I am only one voice, one person. I doubt that anyone will ever read this, but please do not let these children die in vain. I am ready to take a stand. Who is with me?

Tonight I have donated to the Sandy Hook Promise Project to prevent school violence. I am luckily to be able to give, but even if you cannot, speak up to whoever will listen. It is up to us to stop the wolves.
