Sometimes life feels like forever. It's so easy to get caught up in our day-to-day hustle and routine that we forget about God or the fact that this particular stage of our life will not last forever. Perhaps we can even forget, just for a matter of days, about being a Christian. I'll be the first to admit that I have.
At least for me, I find it easier to have faith in God during difficult times rather than easy ones. Though it sounds contradictory, during trying times, I feel myself leaning into God's presence, holding on to His every word. It is in those times that I know that I am not able to stand on my own, and I become heavily reliant on God and His promises to see me through. And that is a good thing, but what about during the other times of my life?
Everyone knows that life is like one long rollercoaster ride; sometimes you are up and sometimes you are down. More often than not, resilience and wisdom are gained from the valleys of life. But I would say that the value of good times to teach us is underrated.
When things are going well for me, I tend to become very busy, so busy that I start to feel as if I need God less. But this is far from the truth. It is one of the many lies that the enemy feeds us- that we do not need God or that we can be successful without Him.
In truth, that is silly. God is the reason for our success, and He has carefully planned each facet of our personalities and skills so that we can achieve all that we do. Every good thing comes from Him. Even as early as Genesis, God is already creating, planning, and plotting every good thing on this earth so therefore, it would be cruel to suggest that we could do anything worthwhile without Him.
Folks, we are in this life for the long haul. God is not an ice pack that we cling to when things hurt and throw away when they get better. He is the Creator. The Father. The reason for your very existence, and He is responsible for your salvation. If you ask me, that is someone who I would want beside me and who I would listen to.
This life, this free will- it does not last forever. So, my advice? Let Him in. Let Him in to the areas of your life in which you think you need Him and into those in which you think you do not. The enemy lies- this world is not the end- it is not forever. Jesus's promise is forever; God is forever. You are not. Your life is not. Your problems are not. And the same applies to me.
God is all-knowing and powerful. It is your choice if that power will work for you or against you. Will you spend your whole life defying God, being "too distracted" or "too busy"? Tomorrow is the lie of the enemy. The devil wants you to forget about God, to believe that you can get along without Him.
These lies, they are nothing more than a dead end and a waste of time. So, I urge you today to consider forever. Your hard times will end- I guarantee- but so will your good ones. Where will you be then? Will you be lost, abandoned, and confused? Or will you be safe in the loving arms of your father, wrapped securely in His promises?
I've made a lot of mistakes in my life, and I am susceptible to the schemes of the devil as much as anyone else is, but I know where I want to be and who I want on my side in life (and beyond). Even if this earth goes up in flames, I will continue to fight as long as it takes to get there.
