June 10th

The elevator had to come back up to let us on. That summed up where Danny went.

We all talked on our way down. Mainly about Ray, her choice of..decor. And the music box. Why she didn't take it, things like that.

Zack was ready to kick some ass by the time we got back down. He burst out of elevator and around the corner in front of Ray like her was some action movie hero. With all that happened, if I didn't know him I might've mistaken him for one, and I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous he looked. It didn't take long for Ray to take the lead, after we were past all the sharp corners and hiding places.

We headed up to the cathedral, talking along the way. Ray mentioned the priest having a soft spot for Zack, and the noise that he made was either just a gag or full on dry heaving. Things were starting to look up. We all struggled to move the organ out of the way, but there didn't appear to be a latch or any form of hinge on the stained glass behind it.

So, we resorted to Zack's method. It was pretty, tiny shards of multicolored glass flying through the air, shining like stars. Though, I moved out of the way pretty quick once they started falling. And lo and behold, a staircase! Seemed to be the only exit so we headed up! Slow at first, but we picked up the pace one Ray's memory was jogged.

She tripped at one point, and we took a moment to rest. And I saw something I never thought would come from Zack. He gave her his knife. To keep. A legitimate, at least somewhat thought out, gift. As much of a monster everyone, including himself, makes him out to be, there are times when, if you look hard enough, his humanity starts to show through. Why do you think I stuck with him for so long?

The moment was interrupted by a warning siren. Self destruct. We took off, running as fast as our legs could carry us up the stairs, trying to outrun fire, explosions, complete and utter destruction. We were so close, we couldn't die now. It had to be Danny, he was the only one left besides the priest and I doubt that old bastard would destroy his life's work so shamelessly. I could feel the ground shaking and each floor crumbled beneath us, trying desperately not to fall with each crash.

But everything must come to an end.

Bars.

Iron fucking bars, looked like they came straight from Cathy's floor. I could see the stairs behind them, but there was no way to get rid of them, no lever, button, crank, not even a hinge. We were trapped. And it wasn't long before the fire caught up.

I could see the panic erupt in Zack's eyes before he even paused. We were trapped. We were all going to burn. He sunk to his knees, eyes darting around the area, back against the bars. Ray was still trying, banging the bars with the butt of the knife, trying so desperately to get all of us out. But we'd lost hope.

Zack got back up again, shoving ray out of the way and winding up. I thought it was another futile attempt, just a smack to the bars to confirm that we weren't getting out. But he was aiming with the blade of the scythe turned towards them. And when he swung, a hole opened up. We all stood there in disbelief for a moment before taking off yet again. IF you thought we were in a crisis before now was way worse. Fire was climbing up around us, the ceiling was caving in, holes were being opened up into the floor, god it was a living nightmare.

We made it up. Really, we did. Not without losing a scythe, though. A small price to pay for freedom. We could see the final stretch of hallway right in front of us, behind a set of simple double doors.

But it all came crashing down.

With a single, earth shattering gunshot.
