"Heed my call, Water God."
I have been under a deep slumber when I heard a tiny unfamiliar voice from somewhere. At first, I thought I was still dreaming. The voice seems to resonate from the surface of the ocean to my ears. And the more I listen, the clearer it becomes.
When I opened my eyes, everything around me was quiet and the abyss below didn't let out a simple groan from the rocks. Then that means, the tiny voice didn't come from the oceans.
I was burning with curiosity as to why something has reached my sense of hearing even though it was far away. Supposedly, I can only hear the voices of the creatures living underwater. It's one of the powers I have but actually the one I hate most.
Who on Earth would enjoy them talking about how chaotic the oceans are? The bigger ones destroy while the little ones flee in groups and abandon the weak. Most creatures are living in the comfort of their own colony but they still want more power and territory. Should I just replace them with the poor fishes wandering about and no home to return to?
"Your Majesty." A little whale slowly moved alongside me. "The sharks have invaded another kingdom in the East. Most of the survivors made it to the border and are seeking refuge at the Crystal Reef kingdom."
The eastern part of the oceans has always been a problem when it comes to power. They like to acquire so much that they neglect their responsibility as citizens of the sea. Daring to poison my homeland is the biggest threat of all.
"Close the borders of the kingdoms connecting those who have been subdued by the rebel sharks," I told my messengers who have begun to group around me. "Based on the reports I received in the past months, a peaceful negotiation won't be able to stop them. Capture and have them all imprisoned in the Dark Trench. If they fight back, you have my permission to slaughter them."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
Bad creatures are difficult to handle especially if you aren't raised like one. I had a hard time to understand criminals doing things that hurt other creatures and their properties. I suppose it's just their way of surviving when they are against the culture.
After all, a centuries-old deity like me wouldn't know the feelings of a creature who can only live for decades.
Most of my subjects have left when a sudden ache from my head flowing down my tail stopped me from moving. They seem to be electrifying my whole being and burning my insides at the same time.
It hurts! Why do I always feel this unknown torture?
"Your Majesty? Is it happening again?"
It took me seconds before I can respond to the ones who noticed. "Yes. It is hurting more than before."
"Will you go towards the land for the time being?"
I gave them a slight nod. "Make sure that the eastern kingdoms have returned their peace and order. I will be back."
"Yes, Your Majesty. Please be safe."
It has been decades since I last saw what the greater land is like. The Earth we live in is indeed more beautiful with light shining upon it. I could see the sky, the rocks, the trees, and the small animals flying and crawling. And the atmosphere is as calming as the one in the depths of the ocean.
But the one thing I am wondering about the land is it seems to call me. The pains I feel in my body go away the minute I walk across the land.
As I looked back on my scales, they turned blue and flattened themselves. My whiskers bridged a few droplets of water and the crown around my head straightened up. I stood on all fours, my sharp claws feeling the sand as if it were my first time walking on a different surface. When I shook my body until the tail, the aching seems to have subsided.
I stood there for a few moments, my eyes closed. I raised my head and let the wind blow past me. This wind is warm unlike below where it's always kind of icy.
There were moments when I kept on thinking that it was not the first time I'd felt this atmosphere. I'm not talking about the constant visits to remove the aches because when I reached the surface of the water with only my head and the pain is already gone. My memories seem to be both believable and impossible. But as always, I had a hard time reliving my origins.
Today is different. I feel like walking the land for real as if something is calling me.
And now I hear that voice again.
It's louder than ever. Across the small trees and rocks, I saw some wooden buildings that seem to be spacious inside. There are creatures walking using two legs and they're carrying some fruits.
Humans.
The first time I saw them was when I took a small trip a decade ago. They were so tiny but they are more intelligent than any other creature on the land.
They can talk with their mouths, walk, swim and even jump from high surfaces. They amaze me.
Because somehow, I seem to be like them.
"Heed my call, Water God."
There it is again. But now I'm sure where it was coming from.
When I lowered my head and opened my eyes, I saw a creature the size of a human. But it is very bright and its body is floating in the air.
I feel a sense of power from it. More powerful than my water summoning and heightened senses.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I am Celestial. I am the spirit who looks after this world. And I have come here to give you my blessing."
The moment it said those words, I felt my consciousness fading as my body ached more than I ever knew.
