In the year 1389, during the reign of Murad I, a fearsome battle took place between the Ottoman army, and an army led by the Serbian Prince Lazar in Kosovo. After winning the battle, Sultan Murad I was checking the battlefield the surface of which a puddle was filled with the Ottomani soldiers' blood. A reflection of a beautiful crescent moon with a star next to it appeared on the surface of that puddle. That's where the idea of a red flag with a crescent moon and a star came from.
