I walked back out of the bathroom and reached for my doorknob before I forgot that I had instructed Ryan to lock it behind me. I didn't want to knock in fear of my dad hearing me. "Ry!" I hiss, hoping he hears me and my dad doesn't. Luckily he did because the door quickly swung open and I jumped inside. I clutched my chest as I caught my breath. "That was adrenaline inducing. I don't know how I can do this all weekend."
"We better figure it out because now it's my turn." Ryan stood up and walked over to the door.
I groaned. It was going to be a lot more nerve wracking to have Ryan out and about. It was easier when I left because I didn't care if my dad saw me. Under no circumstances could he see Ryan though. Hopefully he would still be reading the newspaper. "Do not get caught, Ryan. I'm serious," I warned.
"I know. Are you going to lock the door behind me?"
"No. I want you to be able to get back in here as soon as possible."
He nodded and hurried out the door, shutting it quietly behind him. I took this opportunity to get dressed for the day. I opened my closet slowly, trying to keep it as quiet as possible. I peeled off my old clothes and decided to kick them under the bed for now. I'll dig all of that out and do laundry later, I thought. I picked out my signed Greek Day shirt that I was telling Ryan about and I paired it with some black leggings. I sat down on my bed and hoped that he would be back any second now. I was thankful when he rushed back into my room, shutting the door behind him. "He didn't see you, did he?" I question.
He shook his head. "No, we're good. One trip to the bathroom down, many more to go." We both laughed.
Our laughter was cut short by a couple knocks at my door though. "Hey Abby," my dad started.
I was freaking out because I didn't see Ryan lock the door behind him.
My dad spoke up again. "Can I come for a second?"
I panicked again and tried to buy myself some time. "H-hold on, I'm getting dressed."
"I thought you already got dressed."
Caught in my first lie. I attempt to cover it up. "I was going to get dressed earlier, but then I decided to eat breakfast first." Hopefully he bought it.
"Oh."
Good. He bought it. I waited a couple of seconds, hoping he'd leave me be for a bit until I was ready. He didn't. I glanced around my room. There wasn't a lot of big furniture in it, which meant there was no way I could hide Ryan anywhere. I looked at my closet. I did have quite a big closet though. It was almost a walk in closet. This will definitely work. I gestured to Ryan to step into my closet and I quietly shut the doors. "Be right there!" I called to my dad. I opened the door and stayed put, hoping he didn't take this as an invitation to come into my room.
"Hey look at this." He held a section of the newspaper out to me. "You went to this venue again last night, didn't you? It says they hosted a band called Panic! At The Disco on Friday night. Apparently they're quickly gaining popularity. Did you get to see them?"
"Yeah! Wow, Dad. That's pretty interesting. Thanks for letting me know. They were great! Better get back to my book report now." I gestured to my room.
To my horror, my dad invited himself in, pushing past me. I nervously stood by the door, hoping he would walk back over to me. "Where's the book you're reading?" He asked.
I smiled and shook my head. "Still haven't decided on it yet." My books were in my closet so I was praying that he wouldn't open it up. Oh gosh, and what if Ryan knocks something down in there? I had to get my dad out of my room.
