Author's note: ok, so remember in my last note when I said I was conflicted between two possible one shots to do and that the next one could possibly mark a major tonal shift? Well, I decided to release this one first for the purpose of easing you guys in to that major shift in tone by having a more laidback story about Peter and Wanda just chilling out and spending quality time together. This one shot is it's own au and Peter and Wanda are the same age.
Peter and Wanda rested together peacefully during a Spring afternoon. It was dark and rainy outside, thunder rolling regularly with the occasional lighting bolt scarring the dark clouds with flashes of brightness, amplified by the hundreds of thousands of drops of rain pouring in from the night-like sky, for only mere seconds. This would sometimes be noticed by Wanda, who was sitting on a soft, arctic white couch, which allowed the lightning in the sky to briefly light up the otherwise dim lit room. Peter, who was lying on her lap, would sometimes joke that Thor needed a vacation during days such as these, which was always met with Wanda's jovial laughter.
In moments such as this, Peter would often look at Wanda, who'd either be reading a book or looking for something on tv or online to occupy herself, and stare at her, admiring every small detail of her face that made up the woman he saw as beautiful. During these little moments Peter loved to watch as Wanda's face would move and change from seemingly tired or about to fall asleep, to joyful and happy, to shocked or surprised. In these moments, when Wanda wasn't preoccupied with something else, she would look down to see the one she treasured more than anyone or anything in her life and her world. They could and would stare at each other for hours, smiling at each other, caressing each other's faces, as Peter would pull himself or Wanda would pull him up so they could show other forms of affection comfortably. They loved to rub noses together, squish each other's cheeks to make funny faces, or simply cuddle for long periods of time.
Peter often loved to play with Wanda's hair, running his finger through it, braiding it for her, or brushing her face with it playfully. Wanda, in turn loved the attention Peter gave her, whether it was braiding her hair, kissing her cheek and forehead, or holding her in his arms. They always spoke softly to each other. Sometimes in whispers, but almost never in anger. While they did have their occasional petty squabbles, these were no worse than those of any other healthy couple, and they always managed to come back, stronger than before.
On brighter, sunnier days, when the wind was low, and the sunlight shone in, they would be able to do far more. Central Park, despite often being quite crowded in the summer and late spring, was one of the better places for the two to spend their time together. Sitting or laying down together on the grass, or feeding the birds returning from months of migration, or watching children play together in the park. All of these things allowed for them to be at peace together, to see all that was good in the world, in spite of the terrible trauma they had endured when they were younger.
Those dreadful memories, of promises broken, parental abandonment, wisdom disregarded, beloved family members taken from them, guilt that often lingered in the back of both Peter and Wanda's minds. Yet, it was through this trauma and hardship that they had found each other, and were able to understand and comfort each other. That mutual understanding of grief, of trauma, guilt, and pain. But in each other they found understanding, empathy, comfort, grace, patience, and eventually, love. And they had come to love each other as though neither one has ever loved anyone before.
In Peter, Wanda had an emotional anchor. Someone she could always turn to for needs of comfort, counseling, and occasionally some good old fashioned TLC. In Wanda, Peter found someone he could comfort and be there for, as he had always done for those whom he loved. For the longest time, Peter had needed for someone to confide in, someone help remind him that he was not alone, and did not have to be alone in his suffering and trials. For Peter, Wanda became that person. In each other, Peter and Wanda saw themselves, and stayed together and grew closer, and more in love, as time went on as a result.
Author's note: ok so I know this one was shorter than before, though I felt that varying the lengths of these would maybe help with their appeal. I know not everyone likes to spend hours reading "short stories". Anyway, the next one shot is going to have that tone shift this one was meant to ease you guys into, so brace yourselves.
