Peter sat on the roof of the building within the cold of the night. His body was aching, and his heart was heavy. It had been five years now since he had lost the love of his life, Wanda Maximoff, whom he loved with all of his heart since they first met in middle school.

The two children during those earlier years thought the world of one another, and shared a love for each other deeper than either of them had ever felt before. This love, shared through experiences both tragic and uplifting, is what helped carry the two through the first half of their teenage years. Then, one day, it all came crashing down, as a heartless Mad Titan came and destroyed all that they held dear, and allowed for death to do them apart. In spite of his and the avengers' best efforts, Wanda had disintegrated into ashes within Peter's hands, fragmented pieces of a once happy and joyful relationship now broken into faded memories that could never be repaired.

What's worse, that Wanda was far, far from the only victim, as the Mad Titan Thanos' raid for the fabled infinity stones has resulted in the death of up to half of all life in the universe. This left billions of lives, innocent and otherwise, lost forever on Peter's home planet of Earth alone. Among them, we're not only several close friends of Peter's beloved aunt May, but also the close friend of his own, Ned Leeds.

The young Leeds was once the best of a friend Peter could ever have hoped to have, as they had been since the earliest of school days. Regardless of whatever trouble either boy found themself in, or whatever challenge layer before them, they could always count on the other for guidance and support. But, this had been taken from him too. All those years, all the birthday parties, the Christmas mornings, the Easter Sundays, all now only memories living within the tortured confines of Peter's traumatized mind.

Even with all of this agonizing heartbreak and grief over two out of the three people left alive he still loved and cared for more than any other, many more have still been taken by the massacre. This unfortunately included many of the street heroes who resided in Peter's home and crimefighting domain of Manhattan. Individuals such as Daredevil, Moon Knight, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, the Punisher, and other vigilantes who indirectly or otherwise helped Peter's alter ego of Spider-Man to keep the streets of New York safe had gone. This naturally led to crime rates being on the rise, old bosses such as Hammerhead, Purple Man, and the Kingpin making comebacks after their previous setbacks from the now fallen heroes. The crimes they oversaw were nothing short of horrific and unspeakable, leading to the people of the city looking for someone to blame. And, with the help of a certain news reporter, Peter Parker, through his Spider-Man personna, bore the brunt of this blame and harsh criticism. In spite of how capable he was, he simply could not be everywhere and to everything in the city all at once, even with the police's help.

Yet, all of these things, the harassment he faced from social media for his so-called incompetence, his PTSD from Thanos' attack on earth, and, more than anything else, his overwhelming grieve for his lover and his brother-in-arms took it's toll on the young man, who was only sixteen when this all begun to occur. His Aunt May, who had lost close friends and suffered from the ramifications of the Mad Titan's invasion herself, was all but inconsolable. Yet one of Peter's greatest traits, what made him such an incredible hero as Spider-Man, was that even in the darkest times of his life, with composure, dignity, and humility, he picked himself up and kept moving forward. He knew that it was his calling and responsibility to pull himself, and what remained of his family, being himself and his aunt, together. By doing so, he hoped that despite all the odds, he could keep his broken city together.

Over the next five years, as people around the world struggled to get by, either from grief, or many of the other major ramifications that stemmed from losing literally half of all the world's population, Peter worked. Both as himself, and as Spider-Man. As Peter, he had graduated high school, worked with May at the F.E.A.S.T. shelter, which had become doubled as a grief counseling center, and had even come into contact and modest friendship with Harry Osborn. As Spider-Man, as difficult as it was, he worked through the crime syndicates of the city, dealing with the likes of Wilson Fisk, Hammerhead, and Tombstone. In addition to crime lords, he also came across the likes of Mysterio, Scorpion, Alistair Smythe, Morbius, Silver Sable and her Wild Pack, as well as The Hand.
