Bridgette

Bridgette was seated on the couch, reading a book and winding down for the day when the front door was suddenly thrown open and Felix burst into the room, panting slightly as his hand hung wearily on the handle.

Bridgette closed the book quickly and placed it on the lamp table by the couch, standing up and briskly going to him.

"What's wrong, sweetheart?"

"There's...something...I..." He continued to pant, pausing between his words.

Bridgette gently led him to the couch and sat him down, one hand on his arm and the other on his back as she claimed the seat next to him.

"Why don't you catch your breath first and then we can talk," she soothed, chuckling a little.

He gave a weakly raised hand in the shape of a thumbs up next to his head that hung between his legs.

A single, soft chuckle reached her ears and she leaned her head down to see a small smile lifting Felix's lips.

A smile of her own creeped up her face, a slight chuckle in her voice as she asked, "What?"

"You're enjoying this aren't you?"

She placed a hand on her chest in mocked appallment. "Me? No."

His chuckle was louder this time and a giggle slipped from her lips.

"Yeah, just a little," she admitted.

He rolled his green eyes but they softened as they gazed at her and he raised his head, shifting his hand onto hers as he gently gripped it.

She tilted her head and placed a kiss on his cheek and pulled away, only for him to place his other hand on the back of her neck and tug her closer, placing a loving kiss on her lips that was instantly returned.

She pulled away enough to whisper, "I love you but-"

He kissed her again and she giggled. He raised an eyebrow and slightly pulled away. "But what?" He leaned forward for another kiss but her petite finger stopped his lips.

"I thought you had something to tell me."

His body slightly dropped and she had to hold back the laughter that bubbled inside her.

"Oh. That."

A slip of laughter escaped her mouth. "You make it sound like it's a bad thing."

"Well..."

"Oh my gosh. Felix!"

"What? I didn't do anything!"

"Well, clearly you did something or you wouldn't be so hesitant to tell me!"

"Okay, fine! I guess I did something but-" He held up a hand as she opened her mouth. "-it's not what you think. It wasn't anything bad."

"Good. Because we talked about this and I better not find another note on the door tomorrow morning saying that we have to pay a price of £7,929.100!"

As she spoke, Bridgette stood up, pointing at the door as her eyes narrowed at him.

"Bridgette..."

"Don't 'Bridgette' me! You know exactly what I'm talking about." Her hand fell to her side and she hugged herself, feeling the tears swell up in the corners of her eyes.

"You don't...Felix, that was one of the hardest moments in my life. I was so scared that I wasn't gonna get you back! You can't do this to me again, Felix! Please..." Her voice lowered, cracking and full of heartbreak. "Don't do this to me."
