Marinette

Mari mentally shook herself, trying to fully grasp the situation and figure out how to explain it to Adrien. She risked a glance and her heart broke at the sight. His face buried in his hands, his body trembling as she noticed the tears that trickled down his hands, splashing onto the tile floor.

Adrien...

"Adrien..."

She paused, unsure how to phrase her next words, her heart beating nervously, afraid that she was going to say something wrong and make the situation worse.

She tried again, reaching out a trembling, uncertain hand that gently set itself on his back.

"Adrien, look at me. Please."

He wearily, slowly, lifted his head out of his hands and faced her, his usual gentle green eyes swimming with tears, guilt, heartbreak, and... something that made her own heart shatter, filling in the large cracks with guilt of her own. Still, she had to speak now, before she lost what friendship or relationship or whatever she still had with Adrien.

"I'm really, really sorry for pulling away so... harshly. I just..." she sighed, not eager to say the words that tumbled through her brain, bubbling on her lips and waiting impatiently for her to speak. "I just...kinda...fell in love... with...someone else?"

Her voice unintentionally ended it as a question, pulling her hand away from his back as she finished, laying it instead on her left upper arm, turning her head from him, embarrassed and nervous to see his response.

"Mari..."

"I know, that's not fair to you but it's not like I planned on falling in love with someone other than you so-"

She paused, realizing what she had just said and her cheeks flamed, hands flying to her mouth in shock.

"Oh my gosh. I'msosorryIdidn'tmeantosayitlikethat, ImeanIdidbut-"

Adrien's gentle touch on her shoulder made her voice stop, even though her mouth was still open.

"Mari, it's okay. I get it. I just... I wanted to... I wanted to tell you... I-"

A frightened scream, the sound of glass shattering, rang throughout the house and they both shot up, racing toward the door, only to find it locked.

"Alya..."

Marinette groaned, quite certain her dark red-haired friend had purposely locked the door on them, trying to force Mari to confess her feelings to Adrien.

Thanks a lot, Alya

"What was that?"

Thankfully, Adrien hadn't heard her comment and was instead focused on the situation at hand, pressing an ear to the door and Mari followed suit, straining to hear any more noises from the house.

As should I. Focus, Marinette!

"I don't know but it sounds like it came from the living room. We should go check as soon...as....I...can...get...this...stupid...door...open!" While she was speaking, she continually slammed her shoulder against the door, trying to push it open. Adrien joined her, and her heart flipped at the close contact, but to no avail. The door stayed shut, the only movement from their tactics a continual slamming against the lock before bouncing back into place. He sighed heavily before turning his gaze thoughtfully to the other end of the room and looked at the tall, glass window.

"Well, since that's not working, we could try the window. That might be easier than trying to get the door open."

Mari nodded, pulling away from the door, trying not to feel guilty at the flash of disappointment and yearning that appeared in Adrien's eyes. She walked over to the window and raised an arm, trying to push the bottom half of the glass upward in order to open the window.

A small squeak sounded as the bottom of the window leapt upwards, but only slightly, so she pushed harder, only to find that it was stuck and she wouldn't be able to get the window open so they could escape.

She sighed heavily, disappointed in another failed attempt to escape.

She turned around and found herself only a few inches away from Adrien, her heat flipping as she gazed into his eyes, cheeks flaming.

"S-sorry. The window wouldn't close-I mean open-so we're gonna have to find another way out of your eyes-I mean room! Another way out of the room."

Adrien smiled. "It's okay, don't apologize. We'll just figure something else out."

Why does he smile at me like that? Doesn't he realize what that-

Her thought was cut off as a loud thump came from Rosie's living room.

Mari jumped, accidentally into his arms and she grinned sheepishly at him, jerking back as she tried to compose herself.

"S-sorry." He simply smiled gently at her, but there was a glimmer of sadness that made her heart crack.

"Adrien... I-"

Another loud thump interrupted her, this time followed by another scream, the same terrified tone ringing in Mari's ears. A small gasp escaped her lips as it dawned on her who the possible source of the scream was. Adrien looked at her worriedly but she ignored it, her hands flying to her mouth and she stumbled back, heart racing.

"Adrien...that's... I think that's-"

"Rosie," Adrien finished her sentence, his eyes hardening with worry.

What are we gonna do? What am I going to do?

Even as her thoughts whirled inside her head, a possible solution clicked. A possible one, yes, but also risky and dangerous.

Is it time for me to tell him? This might be the only solution we have.

She immediately jerked her gaze to his face, nervous and terrified of what was about to come out of her mouth. Nevertheless, she faced him bravely, refusing to be overcome with her silly fears.

"Adrien, I need to tell you something."
