"That's it. It's our salvation!" the young man said.

"Silence son." Said the chief calmly. "This is not as easy a choice as you think, boy. We are not the only ones who suffered through drought and famine over the past years. If we take their food shipment we are dooming thousands to starve and possibly die this winter."

"So what?" questioned an advisor, "It is they who exiled us to this land. It is they who redirected the river. It is they that used all their wealth to build a castle and great walls. It is they who have done nothing but to destroy us for years. We owe them no mercy when we have received no such kindness for as long as we have lived."

The matriarch sat silently contemplating their choice. She knew her word would be final. Would determine the life or death of hundreds, perhaps thousands of people. After a long silence she spoke, "
