Kirishima was hard.
Not like that, rather, he was in the midst of a villain attack and shielding the escaping civilians. Several buildings had come down, and he was working to evacuate the citizens who lived in the area. On his left, Suneater was restraining two of the would-be escapees. On his right, Fatgum was handling the others.
"RED RIOT!" Fatgum yelled as he tackled one of the villains. "GOT A KID OVER HERE!"
"ON IT!" Kirishima remained until the last civilian had made it to safety, then rushed over to his mentor and the little girl he was protecting. She couldn't have been more than eight, crying softly in the chaos.
"Hey, I've got you, don't worry." Kirishima partially unhardened himself so as to not look so intimidating, and crouched down to her level.
The poor thing was shaking like a leaf. She was in no fit state to follow the other civilians, so Kirishima scooped her into his arms, hardening himself to provide a good shield for the little one. He took off in a dead sprint towards the rescue area, cradling the girl to his chest, vaguely aware of her hands glowing faintly against him.
The villains had some sort of projectile based destruction power among them, so there was a lot of physical damage done to the area. Kirishima was acutely aware of the crumbling debris falling all around them. Debris that wouldn't hurt him but would be very dangerous to his victim. He kept a hand firmly on top of the girl's head, prepared to harden at a moment's notice.
"You're going to be just fine." He said, not entirely sure she could hear him.
He got to the rescue tents and handed the girl to a waiting field medic. He turned to charge back into battle, but was caught by his shoulder. He turned back around to face a different healer who had concern written all over his face.
"Red Riot, did you take a hit?"
"Huh?"
Kirishima looked down and saw that his exposed body was glowing with a faint blue tinge. Immediately, his quirk went into overdrive, rapidly hardening and softening various parts of his body. He recalled distantly that it was a similar colour to the little girl's hands.
"Woah! What is this?"
"The girl I brought..." He said through hardening teeth. "What's her quirk?"
The healer helped him to a cot then rushed off to find the little girl.
It wasn't long after that the villains were apprehended, Fatgum coming into the tent to find Kirishima, check on the other victims, and let everyone know that they were safe.
"Red, you okay?" He asked, crouching down next to Kirishima's cot.
"I don't know what's going on with my quirk." He admitted, hair hardening as he spoke. "Ever since I brought that girl here, it's been going haywire."
Fatgum nodded, "It was a good call to stay. If you can't control your quirk, then you have no place in battle."
"Yeah..." A deep sense of dread settled in his stomach.
"Red Riot!" Mentor and mentee turned to see a healer jogging towards them. "I found the girl you rescued!"
"Is it permanent?" Kirishima asked the question of the hour, looking to the healer for some sort of reassurance.
"No, it'll wear off in a few days." The healer assured him. "However, she did tell me that there is a way to neutralize it."
"What? How?"
"Uhh..." The healer rubbed the back of his neck. "You uh, have to kiss someone."
"I'm sorry?" The question came from Fatgum, who had cocked an eyebrow at the guy.
