Alice gets home just in time for dinner. The table is set for five instead of the usual four. Something she is not aware of until she's practically ambushed by Fred and Hermione at the door.
Alice looks at the couple strange. "What's gotten into you two?"
"There's something we need to tell you before you come in," Fred says.
"It was his idea," Hermione throws him under the bus.
Fred gives her a look. He believed they were doing this together. "We have a guest, but before you freak out. Please hear me out on this."
"Who is it?" Alice asks.
"Don't be mad but I kind of let him move in."
"Who?"
"I said I would talk to you first, so nothing is official yet. Though I beg you to take it into consideration."
"Who is it, Fred?" Alice gets a little irritated by his rambling.
FP wanders in from the basement before Fred can answer. Alice looks back at him shocked.
"No."
"Alice-" Fred persists.
"No, Fred, how could you?"
"Please listen to me. It'll only be temporary. He needs this."
"What he needs is to go."
Fred looks at her serious. "He has nowhere to go. I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable with this living situation, but please, please, can we talk about this?"
Alice huffs and follows Fred out to the porch.
"I know you're mad. I expected that."
"You know why, Fred. Didn't you think of that?"
"I did, believe me, but he needs us right now whether we like it or not. We're all he has, Alice. We both know that."
Alice pokes her tongue against her cheek. She can't look at him.
"Are you okay with this? At least to be civil with each other until he can manage on his own?"
"Why didn't you talk to me about it before letting him in?"
"That's what I'm trying to do. I'm sorry. He sprung up on us unannounced, too. But he trusts us. That's why he came to us for help."
Alice glances over at him. "What happened to his face?"
"He said the Serpents threw him out."
"What am I supposed to do with him around? I haven't seen him since he left. I can't do this," She shakes her head. "I just, it's not easy to even look at him. Let alone live with him for who knows how long."
"We can work something out. So what do you say? Can he stay? Will that be okay with you?"
"No, but he can't exactly go anywhere else, can he? We might have to make this work."
"Really?" Fred has hope.
"I'm not happy about it, but as long as he stays out of my way, and away from Charles, we can make do with it."
