Charles kisses his mom goodbye and follows the other adults to the car. Fred buckles him in and takes the wheel.
The drive is quiet, but it was nice for the adults to see that Charles is genuinely excited to go to the festival.
The park had set up a lot of booths. There's many activities and food stands to go to, but FP's eyes are drawn to the corndogs instantly.
"FP! FP, we just ate!" Fred calls after him, but it's too late. He loses him in the crowd. The man is on his way to the corn dog line.
"He's just excited. He hasn't been to one with us in years." Hermione wraps her arm around his bicep. "Don't you remember how fun it was?"
Charles tugs on Hermione's hand and points at one of the rides. "Can we go on it? Pretty please?"
"That one makes me dizzy, but uncle Freddie can. Won't you, babe?"
"Anything for my favorite little boy. Come on, let's go!" Fred picks him up and jogs to the line.
"I'll wait here for FP and meet you there!" Hermione yells at him.
She turns to check on FP. She stifles a laugh when she sees him attempting to hold multiple snacks.
"I thought you were just getting a corn dog."
"I was but then I saw these." He waves the bag of pretzels. "You'll thank me later when you're feeling famished." He takes a bite of his corn dog. "Where did the kids go?"
"Over there," She points. They watch Fred help Charles into his seat.
"They're cute together. It kinda makes me think of you two." He glances down at her. "Like, you know, do you two ever think of having one of your own?"
"Huh?"
"You and Fred. Do you two ever talk about having little munchkins in the future? I think you'd make great parents."
"Really?" She smiles at the thought. She'd be lying if said she hasn't thought about it before.
"Yeah," He nods. "You would be so loving and sweet, and Fred, well Fred would do something stupid with them but all in good fun. It's a good balance." He laughs. "No, but seriously I think he would make a good dad. He has the potential to be somebody I wish I could be."
"You think about being a dad one day?"
"I don't know. A part of me would like to be some little kid's dad one day." He smiles to himself. "You know, do stuff like: love them, make them laugh, kiss their little cheeks, wipe their tears away. Somebody they can always count on." His smile fades away. "But the other part of me is too afraid to be a father. I don't think I've got what it takes."
"Why do you think that?"
"Look how I turned out." He scoffs. "Do you really think I can raise a baby to be any better?"
"I think you would make a good dad."
"I don't deserve kids, Mione."
"That's not true."
"Yes it is. Just two months ago I was on the verge of living on the streets. If it weren't for you guys graciously taking me in, I don't know what would have happened. I'd probably be lying in a ditch somewhere."
"Don't say that."
"Or what if I end up like my old man? What then?"
"You're not him, FP."
"I could be."
"No, I don't believe that."
"I'm not that far away."
