The rest of the department team got there a few minutes after 8, and when they sat down at the table with Colby and Rebecca, everyone was chatting and laughing. Rebecca felt a little out of place with Colby's friends surrounding her, since she didn't know them well, but when more people started coming in she scooted her chair closer to Colby. Especially when Tom came and sat down beside of her.Tom smiled and wrapped an arm around Rebecca's shoulder. "You look sexy tonight." He whispered in her ear.
Rebecca's mouth opened but nothing came out. Tom moved his hand down to her hip and squeezed her side making her breath quicken. Rebecca looked over at him as he smirked before looking at Colby's friends. Feeling uncomfortable, she grabbed Colby's hand. Colby quickly turned towards her and when he saw what Tom was doing he cleared his throat. "Tom."
Colby gave him a death glare and when Tom removed his hand from Rebecca's side, Colby switched places with Rebecca. Colby then placed his hand gently on her thigh, and his touch automatically made Rebecca relax. Colby then leaned over to Toms ear. "If you ever touch her like that again I will kill you." Colby then smirked at him before talking with his friends again.
If things couldn't get any worse, some women came up to the table and started talking to everyone. One in particular though was making Rebecca mad. She knew she wasn't actually his girlfriend, but seeing that woman rubbing on Colby's shoulders was pissing her off. To her surprise though, Colby sat up and shrugged the woman's hands off of him. "I have a girlfriend. Go find someone else to screw around with." Rebecca's eyes widened as her heart sped up. And after she turned back around she realized that maybe this night wouldn't be so bad after all.
After midnight struck, Colby and Rebecca decided to head home. Rebecca was surprised about how well it went...well except for the Tom thing...and Colby getting flirted with, but even after those events happened she had fun. She expected it to be a boring little dinner party, but instead everyone ate, and danced, and talked. Everyone was having fun.
When Colby pulled up to her apartment though, that feeling went away. Tonight was the first night she had ever had that much fun, and she knew it was only because one thing, one person, Colby. He got out of the car and helped Rebecca out. "Thank you for the fun night." Rebecca said staring into his dark brown eyes.
Colby smiled. "And thank you for being my date...and fake girlfriend." They both laughed at his words before she started walking towards her apartment. "Hey Becks...Monday morning do you want to grab coffee before work?"
Rebecca turned back and nodded. "Yeah! Sounds like a plan...fake boyfriend."
Colby chuckled. "Alright fake girlfriend."
. . . . . . .
When Monday morning came around Rebecca felt like staying in the bed all day. She slept basically all Sunday, and now she was running late after staying up most of the night. Rebecca groaned before she actually decided to roll out of bed. She went and done her skincare routine before she started getting ready. Once she had her shoes on she was going to scroll through her phone for a bit, because if you're already late you might as well be a few minutes later. But when she saw a text from Colby her breath quickened as she realized they were supposed to go for coffee. "Crap!"
Rebecca then grabbed her phone and purse—forgetting her lunch once again—and ran out of her apartment and to her car. She would normally walk to work with Ashley, but now that her and Colby were trying to hang out more, instead she drove.
She ran a few red lights—which is not that surprising for Rebecca—and made it only 10 minutes late. She parked her car before walking into the coffee shop where she immediately met eyes with Colby. He was sitting at a table for two over in the corner, with a coffee in his hand. She then looked at her seat and seen a coffee and her favorite muffin. She smiled happily about him remembering her order, before she walked over to him. "Hey. Sorry I was a bit late."
Colby shook his head as she sat down. "It's starting to be your regular thing." When he saw her eyeing her coffee he smiled. "I ordered you a caramel frappe and a chocolate muffin. I remembered your coffee order and I know you love them muffins so..."
Rebecca smiled. "Thanks Colby." She then took a sip—admiring the rich taste of caramel—before taking a bite of the muffin. "Are you getting nervous about the wedding?"
Colby furrowed his eyebrows as he took a sip of his coffee. "No not really. I'm just nervous about meeting your family. I might be in trouble if they are anything like you."
Rebecca laughed while scoffing. "They are nothing like me. And I can't be that bad to hang around. You hang around me...so you must like me."
Colby shook his head and shrugged. "I felt sorry for ya. And now I have to tell your family how much i love and adore you."
They both shared a laugh, enjoying their time together. Rebecca never thought that having a fake boyfriend would be fun, but here she was, laughing away with a man who she used to hate. She had heard terrible, terrible things about the man in front of her, but now that they're hanging out, Rebecca realized that Colby Lopez wasn't so bad after all.
