The moment we entered the house, all the rent-free residents flocked around us, assaulting us with questions. Sheila and Tina shouted over each other, Caiden lingered by the door, Angie by his side. William was the only one who wasn't here. Thomas was the first in line, his eyes scanned both of us and narrowed.
"What happened?" He asked.
"They did it." I walked away from the tunnel, Ian at my heels, "The cops managed to defeat them. It was over in ten minutes. Kind of underwhelming, if you ask me."
"Wait, wait, slow down." Thomas followed me.
Frustration and impatience built up inside me.
"Tell us what happened!" Tina shouted as she tried to grab my arm and stop me. "Come on, William wouldn't let us leave the house."
"You should be up in the living room." Ian murmured, his hand gently grazing the small of my back, pushing me forward, "In case someone's watching us."
"Oh, come on." Sheila whined. "We just want to know what happened."
"What's the rush?" Thomas frowned. "You're done, you can relax."
Ian met my gaze; a glint of raw desire inside.
The feeling of his lips against mine flashed through my mind. His hands on my naked skin, his eyes shining with deep, unexplored feelings. I swallowed the bubbling nervousness and plastered a thin smile on my lips.
"I'm tired." I said through my teeth. "I want to sleep."
"Yes." Ian agreed and opened the door for me.
"Where are you going?" Tina rushed after me.
"We need to discuss what happened." Thomas said. "William didn't give us the details and we need to plan ahead to see whether something needs changing-"
"I'll be in my room!" I exclaimed and scurried up the stairs.
Caiden cut in, "Chloe, I think I'm close to a breakthrough. I don't think this can wait."
"Oh, yes, it can." I stared at him. "I'm tired and I want to sleep. We'll talk about this tomorrow."
"I fully support that decision." Ian walked past me, his shoulder brushing against mine.
My gut twisted into a not.
"Tomorrow is too late." Thomas pushed. "We have to-"
"You know what?" Sheila looked at me, her eyes shining with realisation. "I think Chloe should rest. We should, too. Let's go."
"Thank you." I put my hand on my hip. "Caiden, get back to work. Thomas, go get a life."
Thomas's lips tightened, "Seriously? Are we not going to...?"
Tina grabbed his hand when she finally realised what was going on, "You know what? I feel like having a drink. Come with me, Thomas."
His protests quieted down as the vampiress dragged him up the stairs. I used the opportunity to rush through the house, trying to ignore the anticipation fluttering in my stomach. As I finally reached my room, I leaned against the door and took a moment to breathe in.
My room was a mess. My bed wasn't made, all the dresses were scattered over the mattress and the floor was littered with shoes. I kicked the shoes underneath the bed, gathered all the dresses and threw them into the closet and quickly made the bed. I turned off the main light and turned on the table lamp.
